6:46 pm - Con day 2

gueneiriol
Sorry I've been so quiet today, just had a lot of catch up to do.

I'll be in and out of the chat room until 8 pm but please feel free to drop by and chat with anyone there, if you'd like.

http://www.chatmaker.net/chatap/rooms/svfc/

On tonight's agenda we have a [info]ciaan giving a great panel on how to write hot at 8:30 pm and individual sex scenes and, once that's done, I was thinking a little group workshop where we create an online version of a board game but for slash fans. :D

Hope to see y'all there!

If you have any slash-themed graphics you'd like to share, please post them here.

Btw, if you don't have on-line storage space for your graphics, please visit Tinypic.com which is a free storage site for graphics. Additionally, if you've always wanted to try your hand at graphics and don't have the money to afford commercial graphics programs, check out The Gimp or Paint.net, both are free graphics programs that allow users to make fantastic graphics!

10:32 am - It was a dark and stormy night..the SFVC Round Robin

gueneiriol
The Rules:

1. I start the thread with a paragraph.
2. Contributors post their own paragraphs in turn.
3. We can have more then one story going on.
4. Have fun and be creative.

SFVC Round Robin:

It was a dark and stormy night and the Ghostbusters were heading home from another successful bust.

"Can you believe how hard that ghost was to catch?" Ray said from the back, wiping the slime from his body. "It's like he was superghost or something."

"Yes, he was rather active," agree Egon as he looked over his PKE readings.

"Well, he's not running anywhere now," Peter said from the front seat. "So we can go home and get this stuff off of us."

"Amen to that," Winston agreed as he drove and tried not to think of the cold slime dripping down the back collar of his suit.

"What the-?" He managed to get out as something ran in front of them and he swerved to miss it.

9:49 am - Welcome to the con!

gueneiriol
The first Slash Fan Virtual Con is now open!

Over the next few days, there will be chats and posts celebrating Slash fandom and the wonderful fans who make up the fandom! All fandoms are welcome and all I ask is that everyone have a good time!

I'll be hosting a panel starting a 8 pm tonight, I'm tentatively calling it, "Characters I have loved and why I slash some of them" and I'm thinking of having a workshop on creating a slash-themed board game, but other then this, and the panel mentioned below, there really isn't a set schedule for the con. If anyone would like to have other discussions on fandom, slash, slash fandom, characters, writing, etc., please feel free to post here in the comm or link to discussions in your own journals.

If anyone wants to chat throughout the weekend there is a room created in IRC (#sfvc) for IRC users, there is a chatroom at http://www.chatmaker.net/chatap/rooms/svfc/, or you're welcome to open threads here in the comm.

Additionally, tomorrow, Saturday, February 2, at 8:30pm EST, the wonderful [info]ciaan will be hosting a great panel on writing hot sex! See this post for more info.

Finally, I'll be opening threads throughout the weekend on various things for all the attendees.

Thanks for attending and I hope everyone has a wonderful and fun time!

3:02 pm - Panel on writing hot and individual sex scenes

ciaan
Hi, [info]sfvc!

I'll be hosting a panel on how to write hot and individual sex scenes on Saturday, February 2, at 8:30pm EST. I will make a post to my IJ on the subject. Feel free to come read that and discuss in comments (even later, if you're in a different time zone). We'll also be logged in to the chatroom for the virtual con.

If you have links to other essays on the topic, bring those along. And if you have links to stories you think have really hot sex scenes, or do a really good job of showing characterization through sex, bring those too. Recs are always good, and if people are interested we can possibly use those as examples in the discussion.

If everyone who shows up is willing, maybe we can workshop your sex scene for you. That will depend on participant interest.

Anyhow, hope to see you there. :)

10:02 pm - Time Zones and question

gueneiriol
Hi all!

Just wanted to apologize for forgetting the time zone info in my last post. I am in the U.S. Eastern Time Zone, so the last post should have read, 8 PM EST to 1 am EST for both Friday and Saturday for the times I will be hosting the con.

Also, if anyone is interested in hosting a panel at any time (and in any time zone) on either Feb 2 or Feb 3, please let me know.

Take care and see you at the con!

ETA: Just wanted to apologize as I didn't realize I had put 8 am up there. It should be 8 PM EST that the con begins. Thanks [info]like_water for pointing that out so I can get it corrected!

10:24 pm - Con Update and a Poll

gueneiriol
Hi all! I am happy to say I will not being cancelling the con. However, due to my work schedule I won't be able to have it straight thru, as planned. The new schedule will be 8 pm thru 1 or 2 am Friday, Feb. 1, and 8 pm thr 1 or 2 am, Saturday, Feb 2. Though anyone who wants to carry it over after 1 to 2 am time is more then welcome.

I was going to host the con on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) but then came across a free service called, Chatmaker and think I'll use it instead.

Please try out this link and let me know if it doesn't work for you. I think, if you have some kind of Irc program, you can still access a site like this, but I'd have to do some monkeying with it to find out.

Finally, below is a poll. :D

7:26 pm - ADMIN SOS

gueneiriol
I just found out today I'm not going to be able to get the time off from work that I wanted to host the con. In light of this, and because I'd like for the con to still go on if possible, is there anyone interested in taking over the con?

At this point, I've got a few people who have said they'd be interested in hosting panels, I've got a space on IRC created to hold the panels, and I've got this comm. I was in the process of making the graphics and such, but have nothing together. If anyone would like to host the con, please let me know. Otherwise, I'll put up a notice that the con will be cancelled.

I apologize greatly for any inconvenience I have caused anyone.

10:27 am - Who is SF Production

gueneiriol
Someone asked me about this, and since it was a very good question, I decided to answer here.

SF Production, SF short for "Slash Fan", is myself, gweneiriol, and those assisting with the creation of the con. It's not an official company and has no affiliation with any other entity or organization. Hope that clears things up but please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

5:53 pm - What is SFVC?

gueneiriol
SFVC (short for Slash Fan Virtual Convention) is an online convention for slash fans who'd like to attend a real-life convention, but can't, due to various circumstances.

The con will have panels, workshops, challenges, and more. My hope being that slash fans can gather together and to have fun and do as much as possible without actually leaving their homes. The con will be three days (Feb1-3, 2008) and will combine chats, websites, and journaling sites. Anyone interested in participating is welcome and the con's open to all aspects of the slash community.

I hope this post has helped with those who have questions about the con and I hope to see you in February!

3:53 pm - Panel & Workshop info & sign up post

gueneiriol
Info on Panels

-I don't really have any specific kinds of panels that can be presented in mind, so any suggestions you have are fine by me.
-I would like to try to keep the number of panels around 20 (at the most), to make it easier for all involved.
-The theme of the con is "Winter Extravaganza", if that is something you'd like to work into your panel, that's great, but it's not a requirement.
-Panels should be slash related (m/m and f/f).
-The format of the panel is completely at the discretion of the panel host, though I'd like at least a brief summary before the actual day the panel is hosted, just is case something comes up and my help is required.

Info on Workshops

-Workshop formats, as the panel formats, are at the discretion of the workshop host (live chat, website tutorial + chat, etc.)
-I am open to ideas on any kind of workshop whether it be a workshop on writing, crafting, website creation, meditation, or whatever you'd like to host.
-Workshops don't have to be slash-themed, but it'd be awesome if they were. :D
-I'd request a list of all materials, programs, etc. at least a week in advance of the con, so I can put up a website with a materials list for the attendees of each workshop.

As a side note, I'm willing to play web host for any files needed for any panel or workshop, if the host doesn't have a site of their own. I'm pretty open to just about any idea, though I'd like to keep the number of panels and workshops to around 20, if possible, as this is my first time trying to do something like this convention and I hope to keep it manageable for everyone. :D

Thanks again for reading and, if either of these sound like something you'd be interested in doing during the con, please comment below.

ETA: I've had a request for a writing panel on how to write a hot & individual m/m sex scene. If anyone is interested in hosting this panel (or one similar to it), please let me know! thanks!

11:25 pm - Welcome!

gueneiriol
Welcome to the Slash Fan Virtual Convention (SFVC for short) on-line community. As the profile says, this comm is for anyone interested in learning more (or attending) the first SFVC. As things get more organized, I'll post updates to this site.

If anyone is interested in hosting a panel or a workshop during the con, please comment to this post. For those of you who've already e-mailed me about hosting a panel, I will be getting back to you by this weekend with more specifics.

I am planning to host the con from Feburary 1 thru February 3, 2008 and hope to have the official website up soon.

Thanks again for visiting and I hope to you see you at the con!
