A Matter of Redemption by Minxie
Severus ignores the incessant knocking on his door in favour of the potion bubbling in the cauldron. He's allowed that now, allowed to be an eccentric, sarcastic hermit.
A privilege of his redemption.
As soon as the potion fades from a deep, royal purple to a light, near iridescent lavender, he adds the dragon tongue. An expensive, rare ingredient that many brewers will never see outside of a book. Three half-stirs and he steps back, calling for his personal house elf for cleanup.
The potion is complete. Finally.
Both – the ingredients and the elf – are more privileges of his redemption.

Dressed in the fine silk robes – gifted to him for his Order of Merlin ceremony – Severus settles in his favourite chair in front of the fire. Keeping the chair is nothing more than a showing of sentimental frippery.
It was a gift from Albus.
The first privilege of his redemption.
He quaffs the freshly brewed potion in one pull. The poison, brewed perfectly, moves through him with an icy cold swiftness. His potions mastery is the only thing that is his, earned through talent and not with betrayal.
Welcoming the slowing of his heartbeat, he murmurs, "Redemption is severely overrated."
