Revival Options (1/2)
Remus hurried up the stairs as fast as his wolf-enhanced legs would take him. He had managed to cast a Disillusionment charm and transfigure a large shrub into a dead version of himself just before a stray Killing Curse had hit. This had the added bonus of separating himself from that Tonks woman for a while. How she had caught him in a marriage and a child he didn't know. He had been watching surreptitiously as Severus Snape had fought in the battle, and things weren't making sense. Severus' spells were landing and confusing people, but they weren't killing or even maiming anyone. Whose side was he on? Remus was confused - why had his lover betrayed them? why was he not trying to kill Order members now? - but he thought maybe Albus would know. He had to try to talk to the portrait while Severus was otherwise occupied.
The Headmaster's Office was deserted, even by all the portraits. Remus sighed, his hopes of talking to Albus dashed, but instead he rummaged through the desk, looking for what, he did not know, some evidence for or against Severus, perhaps. He came across an old diary, corroded with black ink and a big hole in the middle with a basilisk fang, also covered in ink, lying beside it. They were special somehow, yet tainted. He pocketed them anyway.
Heading back out, he caught sight of Harry and the others headed in the direction of the Whomping Willow. He followed after and watched. He almost charged in, claws wielded, when the Dark Lord sent Nagini to attack his former lover. Although he was still angry at Severus for his betrayal, he could not have wished such a gristly death on him. Controlling himself and staying hidden, he listened as the Trio confronted Severus, and he was in awe and shock when Severus gave up his memories and gazed without contempt at Harry. That didn't make sense! Remus had to know more, but he couldn't let on that he was alive right now. Once the Trio left, he crept into the building and knelt by Severus.
The man was almost gone, but the blood still flowed out of him, so he wasn't lost yet. Remus cast a CPR spell that would keep blood and oxygen flowing to Severus' brain while circumventing the broken aorta on the side of his neck. This also prevented most of the blood from continuing to spill out. Now to save and revive him.
He searched through Severus' robes for potions, but found none. He tried what healing spells he knew besides first aid, but he was woefully lacking in any of the higher incantations and worse Nagini's venom seemed to be counter-acting anything he did. Feeling the effects of the Dementors close by and needing some cheering himself, Remus took out a bar of chocolate and nibbled at it. Then the thought struck him -- chocolate! Of course! If it could raise people's spirits out of despair, why not raise people's lives out of death? He waved it under Severus' nose, but the man couldn't smell anything. Then he broke off small chunks and placed them in Severus' open mouth. They melted on the still-warm tongue, some dribbling out between loose lips, some sliding down into the throat. But nothing happened.
Remus hunched over at a loss what to do. He could cast a preservation charm on Severus and go get Poppy, but she would be busy enough with the rest of the wounded and possibly dead. All the other Order members hated Severus and would not want to help Remus revive him. The students and faculty all mistrusted him and wouldn't help him either. Even Remus wasn't completely sure he wanted Severus up and alive, but he did want answers. Answers ... wait a minute.
He took out the book and tooth and looked them over. The Basilisk fang might still contain some venom, and even Remus knew that sometimes one poison could counteract another poison in a person's system. It might be worth a try to negate Nagini's venom. He wondered if the book mentioned this at all and began glancing through the pages. What little was not blotched with ink was blank.
