Severus was having a terrible day.
Or, he reasoned as he counted the steps to his quarters... one two three... yesterday had been a day of terrible humiliation and that had just carried over to today.
He walked as quickly as was possible on the old stone floor of the dungeon... slide step step step slide turn...
"Don't step on a crack, Professor Snape!"
"Ten points from..." Severus stopped when he realized he was still looking down and hadn't seen the student who'd embarrassed him.
Sighing, Severus finished counting his steps–ending on seventy nine–until he was in front of his door. There, he dismantled the wards and put them back up three times, and all the while half of Slytherin was watching him.
He didn't dare turn around, not when dozens of his students were ready to ridicule him. He sighed, then amended, 'Continue to ridicule him.'
After he dismantled the wards for the third time, he quickly opened the door and slipped inside, like a thief entering his own home.
The low lights and familiar smells caused him to unwind and relax just enough for him to completely miss the person coming up next to him.
"Bad day?" Harry whispered into his ear.
"Mmm," Severus hummed noncommittally.
"Want me to make it better?" he asked, hands moving over Severus' shoulders.
Severus smiled and allowed all thought of the horde outside to leave him.
Well.
Perhaps not all. But as Harry's hands began to carefully move him towards their bedroom, Severus thought a little distraction might be possible.
