In the Dark Hours Title: In the Dark Hours Artist/Author:veridari and roozetter Pairing: Severus, Harry (not slash) Rating: G Word Count: 136 Warnings: none Summary: "Night's black Mantle covers all alike." ~Guillaume de Salluste Du Bartas A/N: Thank you, snow! You jumpstarted my fussy muse with your current challenge to create something for the first part of DH. Smooches to roozetter when she helped wrangle this for me AND she even wrote something on the fly! *mind boggles at her awesomeness and hugs her* I also must give credit to atypicalsnowman for her marvelous story "The Victory March". It was her wonderful Severus in that story that was in my head when I started this, although my muse took the entire piece in a very different direction and made it more than a drawble. For the record, none of these characters are mine. ;)
Severus gazed out the window, allowing his shoulders to fall into an uncharacteristic slump. In the end... it would all be worth it. The sobbing children, the angry co-workers, the grit-your-teeth-and-get-out-of-bed-to-face-another-day pain. It had to be worth it. So much had been sacrificed, lost, stolen in the bleakness of the dark.
Harry's eyes were huge, lips parting involuntarily, as he gazed at the man before him. This is the man who destroyed the hopes of millions with a single lift of an eyebrow? This was the man he had sworn to kill? This man... this man looked like him. Tired, world-weary, unable to summon the energy to fake a smile when away from all those who forced their hope upon him.
He could understand this man. And that frightened him more than this war ever had.
