“You’re never too old to switch careers.” Steven said with a chuckle and a shake of his head as he considered the doctor before him. “You could always become a nurse… changing bedpans, wiping down sweaty foreheads, taking tempatures all day long.” He just grinned at her as he shifted back fully in his seat. “You know, all the fun stuff that doctors always pass down onto the interns or the orderlies. That wouldn’t bother you too much, would it?” Oh, he was definitely teasing from the look in his eyes.
But then he closed his eyes for a moment, as he focused on them. He gave a quick wince, but unless she was watching him at that moment it would be gone in a flash, and his eyes opened up again as he glanced around the room. “That’s a problem, doc.” Steven said with a sigh as he took a sip from the coffee she brought. “If people can’t trust the people who are here, we’re going to have problems. Big problems.” He took a slow deep breath, followed by another sip of the coffee.
“And given some of the abilities that those like us are developing, it’ll make the race riots in America, and tribal wars of Africa look like picnics. And there’s a hell of a lot more of them then there are of us. We’d lose, no matter what.” He just sighed at that as he shook his head. “But, that is a problem for the future, it isn’t quite here yet.”
