"Miki, if you aren't going to drink that, give it back to me. The last thing we need is for Hilary to drink it."
"Yes Hilary, a promise is a promise and I always keep my word. I'll get you a new sword." I raised my hand before she could interject. "Yes, a sentient sword."
I looked to the other kids. "You can all have a candy bar when we get you home but nobody but Hilary is going to get any weapons, at least not from me."
I looked to Victor. "We're going to have to take the multi dem tubes to go home. The cenobites never gave me back my portal generator. Knowing them they probably shredded it."
The little girl who had spent most of the night in my arms and was the one who had bravely smacked Officer Parker's fingers in an attempt to help Hilary tugged on my arm.
"What's a multi dem tube?" She asked.
"Oh that's right, your parents don't do a lot of dimensional hopping do they?" I told her with a smile. "Its a multi-verse travel system that lets you go from one dimension to another."
As we all got up to leave the police station I stopped and looked at the kids who were milling around. "Well?" I asked holding my arms wide.
The children with squeals of happiness rushed to me and once again climbed on top of me like I was a statue in Central Park and they were pigeons. I just hoped they didn't decide to relieve themselves on me like the pigeons did to the statues."
"Can I stay with you Susan?" The little girl with the flat chest and brown hair in a cute pony tail asked me. "My foster parents don't really want me. I've heard them talking about how I cramp their style."
"I want to stay with Aunt Susan too!" The other girl started crying.
"Karen, Lisa, I'm a single adult imp I don't think social services would allow me to take care of human children." I said with slight tears coming to my eyes. Oh crap. I've become attached to the kids.
"Let's just get you all home." I managed to get out past the lump in my throat.
