When Alexei began talking and smelling -Dear Merlin, did he really take a whiff of her shampoo?- her hair, Audrey first tried to shrug it off as a typical Alexei thing. Well, maybe not completely typical because he was quite different from her (except for the non-confrontational part they shared in common) in his thought processes, but she thought she knew him well enough to know he'd talk about things that she didn't expect.
When she opened her mouth to respond to his first question, her words failed her as he continued with his proclamation. She widened her eyes at that, paling slightly, and picked up her book as she stood. "Very funny, Alexei," she said. Was he trying to rub it in that she was dumped for a boy and his chicken? It didn't seem like an Alexei-thing to do, but the week was already weird enough. First, Cal. Then, Blair and the boy she told her to stay away from. And now Alexei? Not funny.
She pushed her papers into her bag before swinging it around her shoulder. "Go ahead and tell Tacey and everyone else that I didn't fall for it this time," she said, turning to leave.
