Harry shrugged at her skeptical look. He didn't have any other excuse to give other than telling the truth and he wasn't sure if letting everyone down by telling the truth was really an option.
"You're right, I probably don't have them. I think once I'd slept for a week... I binned everything and got new clothes."
He tried to think back, but those first few weeks were like a blur and getting shuffled through the Ministry and all the awards and congratulations just sort of bled together. He couldn't remember much of anything except her and Ron being there with him. Unconsciously, he covered her hand with his other, rubbing his thumb across the back of it.
Then she brought up the sweets. And the order sheet that was now burning an enormous hole in his satchel. Swallowing, he gave her a smile, trying to keep it casual.
"That bakery up at Hogsmeade?" And even before she answered, he knew that it was and that he was going to have to accept the order without complaint. "I'll bet they're just ecstatic about that. I hope there will be enough time."
