The young mutant opened her eyes from their tightly closed position, her arms still outstretched and in a curled posture, like she was gripping something. She had been, Sally had been able to break her shield and choke Masque, hoping it would save Rusty.
When the young mutant stared wide-eyed at the sight before her. Woods, not the sewers where she had just been. Her blue eyes scanned through the dark as best she could. Though there was not much light to work with. Skids finally dropped her hands by her side and looked around in a panic.
"Rusty!? Jean!?" Sally cried out, she was already so worked up about what Masque had done to the person she cared for that the tears were forming quickly in her eyes as she called out again, "Rusty!? Anyone!?" Skids gave a defeated sigh and fell to the ground, burying her face in her eyes. Her force field slowly appeared around her figure as she let out a soft cry. It protected her even when she was only suffering emotionally. Sure, it was nice to turn it off and feel something for once but there were times she was thankful for her power.
The short blonde crawled over to one of the trees and leaned against it. Normally, she would not be so distort but Sally was overwhelmed with the situation as well as the situation back home that she had left before making sure it was complete.
Her head went down onto her knees as she curled into herself, letting the tears fall from her cheeks and onto her jeans. That's when she heard it, a deep growl in the darkness that did not sound like a normal animal. Her head perked up and her eyes peered into the blackness before her. Sally could make out a pair of eyes that she attached to the unholy growls and snarls. The blonde pushed her back into the tree as far as she could, paralyzed by grief and fear of the unknown. Her ears picked up movement, her attention focused solely on the creature that was approaching. It lunged at her rapidly and reflex kicked in as she threw her arms up, her shield bouncing the creature a few inches back.
"Somebody help!" Skids shouted into the emptiness.
