Chris certainly wasn't the man he used to be. Losing so much already in his life had really made him tougher. He was a little closed off as well. It was just so much harder for him to let people in. He couldn't shake the thought that the person might be just another person to lose. He wasn't sure he could bare that. The few people he still had left in his life were everything to him, and he had enough on his hands making sure nothing happened to them. He didn't really have much actual family left. What was left of the Argent line he really wasn't connected to anymore. They all claimed to live by this code, but when it came down to it none of them followed it. Plus that code had caused him to lose pretty much everything he had. Waking up on the beach should have upset him more than it did, but he wasn't surprised by it. The way his life had gone as of late had been so horrible that being kidnapped just seemed like another step in that road. He still had something to live for, but the truth was he just had to be in the fight to find that fire. If he could use his gifts to help people then that would be the thing he lived for. He got to his feet and looked down at the beach to his right and then he turned and looked to the left. The sight he saw just ripped his heart out. Someone was clearly trying to play with his mind, because there stood his daughter. He had just seen her die. Someone was going to pay for this. He made his way over to the person that he was sure was an impostor and flat out asked "Who the hell are you?". |
