REPOST
WHO: Gladys Gudgeon, Evan Rosier, Marcellus Rosier, unnamed Auror
WHEN: November 24, 1976, backdated for a zillion reasons
WHERE: Hogsmeade
WHAT: Gladys gets PWND // Evan leaves to join the DE’s
o beware, it's VERY long

It was the day of the first Hogsmeade visit all year. The Death Eater activity was down, and everyone finally felt safe enough to go out. Gladys was glad; it had been quite a while since she’d been allowed out on her own and she was tired of being coddled. Her parents had wanted her to go with a group of friends, as had Galvin, and she had come, but about noon she split off from them to sit and think. She’d been really moody lately, although not nearly as moody as Benjy, but she didn’t know why. She supposed it was just part of growing up, that is was just her hormones being off, and that was probably it. But figuring that was the answer didn’t make it any easier. So she figured maybe a walk by herself, a relaxing walk with plenty of fresh air and a pretty view would make her feel better. And it had. On her way back however, she heard the screams begin.

They were everywhere. She ran back to the village and saw people in cloaks and hoods shouting curses and hexes at students and adults alike. Bodies of the injured and the dead were already all over the place by the time she arrived on the main street. To get to the castle, she had to pass through the mess, but she saw several of her classmates lying in the street. She hadn’t been afraid until then. Terror suddenly seized her and she stood rooted on the spot. Someone near her yelled her name and told her to run, but she hardly heard him. She was staring at the body nearest her. He was young, possibly a student still, possibly a recent graduate. He was facing her, his eyes open and staring, seeming at her. Surprise and absolute fear were his dying emotions, clearly written on his face.

Someone, an Auror maybe, grabbed her arm and shook her; she finally snapped out of her daze. Fear had sent her pulse flying through her veins but also kept her feet glued where they were. The man pulled on her to get her to go with him. Her eyes tried to go back to the body of the young man, but the possible-Auror jerked her again and she had to look back ahead if she was to keep from tripping and falling. After a minute, Gladys was finally able to fully shake the stupor, and it felt like she was waking up. A battle was raging around her; adults and students alike fighting on both sides. She saw the hooded figures, Death Eaters, fighting with Aurors, Slytherin students fighting Gryffindors. What the bloody hell is going on?she thought. A group of students rushed up behind her and she got separated from whoever was leading her, but she wasn’t alone so she thought nothing of it. Gladys didn’t have much time to ponder what was happening because a second later something, a curse it seemed, hit her in the knee and she collapsed. She was trodden over and stepped on by those behind her, and there was a blinding hot pain in her knee; she screamed.

--

When the fighting began, it didn’t take Evan long to realize what was going on. He wasn’t upset, except that he’d thought his father would have told him something would be happening. He didn’t expect to see him throwing hexes at Aurors and students. Luckily he and Alice had been on their way out of Hogsmeade and back up to the castle. When the shouting and screaming spilled into the streets from the shops, Evan had shoved Alice behind the nearest building and told her to stay, that he’d protect her and get her safely up to the castle. Death Eaters, Aurors, Order members, students, and inhabitants of the village were flinging hexes and dodging curses. Evan knew his place in the war and shot a few hexes himself at a group of Aurors. Only one hit, but that was hardly the point. He spotted a large group of students, most of them Mudbloods and bloodtraitors, and fired curses and hexes at them as well. He hit a redheaded girl in front and she went down, blood pretty much exploding from the wound on her leg.

His saw his father close and yelled for him to cover him, that he’d be back. Evan ran back to Alice and grabbed her hand. They left the alley and ran up the street, Evan firing hexes over his shoulder in random directions, mostly to make it look like he was doing something to protect Alice, and he was, but he knew the Death Eaters would not be bothering them; they knew he knew which side he was on. At the gate to the school, Evan told Alice to go inside and fed her some story about seeing his father and needing to make sure he was alright. She pleaded with him to stay, but he shrugged her off and ran back to the village.

--

Gladys was screaming. Her head hurt with the pain in her knee and her hands were sticky with blood. She couldn’t see, couldn’t hear, could barely breathe through the pain. She felt hands lift her off the ground but she couldn’t even open her eyes to see if they were friendly or not. By the time she got on her one good leg, she was just a ball of tears and whimpers, no longer really able to scream. Whoever had got her up put an arm around her waist and was helping her limp forward. She opened her eyes a smidgen and saw they were headed up the road to Hogwarts, and that the person helping her was the same Auror as before. She only made it a few steps however, when she was hit in the back and lost consciousness.

--

Evan arrived back at Hogsmeade in time to see his father aim his wand at the girl he’d hit earlier. A jet of right light hit her square in the back and she collapsed, losing consciousness. He paid her no attention, though, because someone was throwing hexes at his father. Running up next to him, he threw an leg-locker curse at whoever it was, and was a bit stunned to hear his father mutter the Killing Curse; the man dropped down to the ground, motionless. He turned to Marcellus.

“Father—what?”

“Evan, it’s time you took your place. Several other students have already left to take the Mark.”

Evan was stunned. He knew he’d eventually join his father as a Death Eater, but he’d thought it would be after he graduated; he hadn’t even known He would take children. He was hesitant to leave, he’d left Alice at the gates to the school grounds-what would she think when he didn’t come back? Would he be allowed to return?

“I don’t know if I can,” he tried to protest. The fighting had died down somewhat by this time, but to be sure, Marcellus grabbed Evan and whisked him into a nearby alley.

“It’s your duty; you must. What have you got left at the school? Some girl? Your ‘studies’? Evan please.” Still, Evan could not keep himself from looking back toward the castle.

“Alright, fine. But let me go back. I’ll be of no use to anyone if I can’t graduate and get a job at the Ministry.” His father nodded.
