To learn anything offensive, which is going to be slightly more useful for you in defending yourself against current threats, you're going to have to be willing to infect pain. Are you ready to do that?

There are other methods of defensive and offensive that I can teach you as well.

I can teach you how to do a small personal shield but all the good that would do is leave you as the princess in distress waiting to be saved.

And it's always good to know how to handle oneself without the magic as well.

This world is even crueler and harsher than the one you left behind. It will consume you if you do not fight it back.

It's not so much about being useless as it is being able to keep oneself alive. I have space we can use but [...] we're talking just you. No Joseph. No him sending Bruno along. No hand-holding.

More if I tell them everything's going to shit, they'll expect that means we're about to do something about it. I won't endanger their lives for a futile revolt when I don't even have the slightest bloody idea what's going on.

Right. Still, I'll likely ghoul a few more of them, just to strength our defenses. I usually don't add more than one at a time, so they can get the hang of it, but the hits are coming so fast there's no time for ceremony or taking our time.

We wouldn't want them to get damaged...

For now, it is. But considering how quickly things have gone badly and how little guidance we've gotten from the Council and the Prince, we're very likely on our own.
