On a relatively normal night in the city, there was always a dull cacophony in the background. Few homes had any chance of being soundless at night, from cars driving by to people shouting to sirens. It's something one got used to over time. The noise was less prevalent in the winter months partially due to the cold and partially due to the occasional snowfall muffling the sound waves. Those who spend any significant time in highly rural areas can attest to how maddening the silence at night can be. A common trope in movies. Tonight was no different. The usual noises permeated the air, though anyone walking outside in Queens may have felt a bit more tension than was normal for the Big Apple. Something was going on, but unless one drew slightly closer to the center of the borough, it wouldn't be apparent that it was. There were still shouts and sounds of impact to be heard, but it wouldn't be terribly distinguishable from a common street brawl until eyes fell upon the scene. There, any innocent passersby would find themselves caught up in what could only be described as a battle zone. Two groups of people were fighting. Not unusual by itself due to gang activity in the city, but there was something that made it different. Something that made it super. A flash of light burst in the center, almost blinding, even with the nearby streetlights. A fist landed, sending someone flying in a way that a normal punch shouldn't. It wouldn't be the first time these two groups had fought, nor would it be the last. Two small teams, one Eleos, one Chrysalis, stood eye to eye, fighting. Mostly oblivious to the damage being caused in an attempt to overpower the other. If they tried hard enough, they could do some serious damage to the block they were on, but their attention was much more focused on each other. Leveling the city was in no one's best interest. What had started off as a small team of villains robbing a location quickly became much more as soon as the self proclaimed heroes stepped in to stop them. Thankfully, civilians had long evacuated, so the only people getting hurt would be the mutants. Well, unless someone happened to stumble into the fight. |
