RP: Belvina
Who: Belvina Black
When: 12th February
Where: Magic Rock
What: The unthinkable has happened. Belvina has a job.
Belvina had been busy in the past month or so. It had been mid-January when Headmistress Babbling had asked - well, more hinted that whilst she was always welcome to stay at Hogwarts, questions were being asked by some of the staff about the length of her stay. She'd been stung by the idea of the professors speaking negatively about her: in her day she knew nobody would have dared question a Black but in this time, nobody seemed to heed that.
So she'd visited Magic Rock to understand how much properties were and had then made plans. She didn't have enough to buy somewhere, not without a job already secured, and not to a size she was accustomed. She'd have to reshape her expectations she supposed. It wasn't as if she needed many bedrooms or much entertaining space when she didn't really have any friends. She'd become friendly with the young Arithmancy Professor and the young man in the apothecary in Wandermere but that was about it. Belvina knew she was too spiky and reserved for many here and she wasn't the type to go about starting conversations as some people did here so effortlessly.
She'd also come to realise that she wasn't going to meet some rich man that would give her the financial status she was so used to. It seemed as if even though her name raised eyebrows and got her some appreciative stares, there wasn't the same social pressure to get married young here and her name and looks weren't enough without family power and backing. She hadn't really kept up with Regulus and Sirius beyond the occasional journal post as it had seemed quite clear to her that they had their own lives to live. She'd heard that Regulus had bought a veritable castle and he hadn't suggested she share it. So that was that, she wouldn't beg for their charity.
After some thought, Belvina had come to the conclusion that she had enough to rent somewhere for a couple of months without issue but she would need a job. A job that paid what she thought was a menial amount but which she had come to realise was actually not. The couture robes, expensive books and priceless artefacts would be out of her reaches entirely but she thought she could probably be happy. It wasn't as if there was any other choice, not really. She was stuck in this time period and she would have to understand how to live there happily. There was very little point in dwelling on what if.
It had actually been her friendship with the man at the apothecary that had helped her there. Javier had confided that the potioneer working at the shop was planning on taking a sabbatical to study in some Eastern European country. Belvina hadn't made note of which one as she didn't much care. She'd reached out to the owner and after a couple of interviews that had involved Belvina brewing some of the more delicate potions they stocked, she had been offered the job.
And today had been her first day. She had moved into her flat the week before and it was still quite bare. The bookshelves were empty, there were no real soft furnishings on the furniture or pictures on the wall. Although it had came furnished, it was missing any personal touch. Still, it was home and Belvina thought with a quiet pride as she stroked her arm along the back of the sofa that at least it was hers.
A sudden movement caught her eye and she smiled as she caught sight of the black cat on the kitchen table, looking at her inquisitively. Belvina had spotted him in Wandermere just after she had moved in, half-starved and mangy. She'd taken him home and whilst his coat was still tufty and bare, she could tell that it would grow back lustrous. A plaintive meow made her smile and she took off her cloak, heading towards the kitchen and scritching behind his ear as she passed. "Right then, Lucifer. Dinner it is. Now let me tell you about today..."
