Hey a Humpty Dumpty story, cool. :)

BATGIRL #5

Art by Lee Garbett & Trevor Scott
Cover by Phil Noto
It’s Bat vs. Bat in “Core Requirements” part 1! As Gotham City burns, the new Batgirl comes face-to-face with Batman and Robin, who are anything but happy about her running around with a bat-symbol on her costume. Batman confronts Oracle as Damian confronts Stephanie in the ultimate Bat-family feud.
On sale December 9 • 32 pg, FC, $2.99 US

Steph versus Damian? ...Woo Steph! Smack him around (even though it technically wouldn't make sense, what with his assassin training and such)! Maybe the fire on the cover is her blowing him up, as that's what she seems to be making a habit of doing so far in her series. :)

Steph, when Bat-daddy and Oracle-mommy break up, it's not your fault. No matter what your little shithead brother says.

But Abuse is more of an anti-hero.

Hey, the Manhunter cover is upside down of the way The Source presented it. So which way is right?

This way there's room for the logo at the top without the staff in the way, so that's my guess.

Dick, you dope. Babs isn't impressed by your father telling her how to run her organization, you think she's going to roll over for you?

Well, DC's plan to make me less interested in Batgirl with every new piece of information released is succeeding admirably. Can we bury this "superheroes fight and are mean to each other" crap once and for all? And is it really going to take this many issues of family feuding before Steph is accepted?

Word on that. Bruce had plenty of issues that provided an actual plausible reason for some infighting, but Dick more than anyone should be willing to give her a chance, at least. Particularly if Babs is willing to vouch for her, as the solicit seems to be implying.

I'm still holding out hope that Dick will end up taking an interest and mentoring Steph a bit, but apparently he's required by the high god of batdickery to give her the smackdown first. Sigh.

But my god, that is really gorgeous art. The perspective is nice, the costume looks fantastic, and her body has relatively normal proportions for an athletic eighteen year old girl. Very nice.

"Bat-family feud"?

=(

I want a Bat-family picnic! A Bat-family board games night! A Bat-family cornucopia of love!

C'mon, DC.

I'm so tired of the in-fighting. At the end of the day, the bottom line is they're supposed to be working together to fight the villains. While it is sometimes interesting to explore the tensions in the all their various relationships, when they keep doing it repeatedly it's very wearying and feels stale already. (Especially with respect to Steph having to prove herself again and again.)

Then again, looking back at the interview:

And then in Issues #5-#7, Batman and Robin are going to come into Steph and Babs' little operation in a very big way. And Dick in particular may not be happy with how they're doing business. So there'll be some nice conflict between a former Batgirl and a former Robin, and a current Batgirl and a current Robin.

----

Sounds like they do something that offends Dick's delicate sensibilities? I guess we'll just have to see how it goes down. But it sounds like they all team up quick enough.

Baqtgirl costume is looking better! I like it.

Though, Cass's was pretty cool for the most part, I just didn't like her mouth covered up. What Steph has been rocking as of last issue would have been fine to keep it as is.

You know what would be interesting? If Cass became The Spoiler. I know it's cheezy but her and Cass make such a pair, be very interesting to see them kinda swap......semi-competant Batgirl and a extremely competant Spoiler.

Though, I still think this book will ultimately delv into some form of Batgirl corps, if only figuratively, I swear it will. I mean Misfit, Cass, Babs AND NEW!Batgirl Steph? Just far too coincidental.

Dick trying to tell Barbara who can or can't be Batgirl is laughable! Also Damian as much as I am tolerating and kind of liking you, I hope Steph gives you a beat down even though she's not as L33T when it comes to fighting as you.

Seriously this at least better be a Steph vs. Damian and Dick and Babs just having a friendly and rational talk about Steph! Because I will not have Dick telling Babs what to do, at this point he should know better.

Ok, if Dick starts with Babs, he's going to get shredded. Damian vs. Steph? Steph will outsnark him any minute of the day, starting by making fun of his *tt* sound. If Damian loses it and starts with the violence, I want Cass to descend from the stalactites and thrash him from the Batcomputer, through the memorial case, around the penny, under the T-Rex, and all the way down the stairs to the Batboat.

Steph! Batline! Reach for it now! 32 feet per second per second! I can't tell whether your cape is on fire... You're giving me hypertension.

I just caught up on Batgirl 2 yesterday. I wasn't thrilled about Oracle being well... awful, but the dialog was good and the story seems decent enough. I think the book could have legs and I hope the Batman confrontation will close down this whole "you can't be Batgirl" nonsense.

Or Cass will show up and tell them she gets to choose her replacement so back up off.

Is there any hope that the Damian/Steph fight will result in them both killing each other, forever ridding the DCU of their taint?

I'm guessing the big spoilery twist to the 'Streets of Gotham' story is that Humpty Dumpty WON'T be at the center of the scheme. From what I've read about him, he's a reasonably harmless character, as lunatics go - his big deal is he likes taking things apart and putting them back together again. He is not a plotter or a schemer - he takes things apart and puts them back together again. He's a docile little guy. I think 'a sinister plot involving dozens of Gotham City's young runaways' is a bit beyond his capabilities.
Also, who the hell is 'Abuse', and what's the deal with the current trend of villain names? 'Abuse'. 'Genocide'. 'Destruction'. Next thing you know, they'll have used up all the big impressive-sounding ones, and be down to 'Hack', 'Stab' 'Maim' and 'Eviscerate'.
