I'm fairly sure his grandfather is currently younger than him right now. Not that that would exactly stop kid Zeus from striking down Fury.

And unfortunately for Ares he hasn't gotten this memo yet.

Not really a fan of how Deodato draws bodies, they're so grotesquely muscular and the contortions bleeegh. On the other hand he redeems himself with his facial expressions. You can just tell Lindy was just "Oh crap, I didn't think that would actually hurt him!" in that last page.

He's come a long way from his Wonder Woman work in the 90s, though.

He made Ares look sad. Almost crying.

Damn if he doesn't have talent when he's not drawing Tommy Lee Osborn...

Y'know, as much as I've been itching for Bob to royally get his ass handed to him, possibly in a lethal way, that still reads as an incredibly stupid page to me. It's so... unsatisfying.

This issue made me simply LOVE Ares! Fuck Thor, this guy is a real person! Totally believable as a father.

Plus: Faceless Sentry makes me happy, that concerns me >_>

I'm not normally a fan of Bendis, but even I gotta adamit that he knocked this issue right out of the park. The spectacularly non-violent confrontation between Ares and Fury was a pleasant surprise given what the cover..(As striking as it was..) seemed to be suggesting we'd be finding inside.

Aww poor Sentry, looks like he's gonna have to go back to wearing a mask! ;) But am I to understand then that the gun Lindy used was one of Marvel Boy's? If so, that's some spectactulry powerful weaponry for him to be just abandoning at Avengers Tower..(Or whatever's it's called these days..)

And Bullseye's liking Spidey's sense of humour? Heh! Between this and his abandoning his contract to take out Deadpool, Bullseye's starting to get soft on his wisecracking spandexed targets! Daredevil should try developing his own sense of humour again next he clashes with him.. (Though granted that would be quite difficult to do when locking horns with the guy who keeps killing everybody you care about.)

This is nice but it lacks Daken, Bullseye, and/or Venom so I'm sadly not that interested. It makes me want to read up on Ares though and MAKE myself interested though so I guess there's that!

Sentry finally getting something is nice, I will admit. I bet he'll be back like he came back from being 'killed' earlier in the run though.

Finally Lindy had the courage to put us out of our misery.

I'm sorry, but the Sentry is dangerous, insane, and might I add has nothing new to show us? We know he's the Void and so does he. And now it's just us going round and round, waiting for him to lose it again, and then not. He's become tedious. And far more a danger than he ever was a good.

And besides, without him Norman's kind of fucked.

The story that needed telling with the Sentry is done. He should have been dead a long time ago.

I look at that cover and all I can think is that Fury's a moron. How many times do you have to shoot the god in the chest before you figure out that, no, sidearms aren't going to get the job done?

Ares is still a douchebag, but I like that he IS a good dad. And that Bendis remembered to portray him that way. :)

Geek check: when did Fury and Ares meet?

The Ares/Fury bit was well-written. I fully concede that fact. That being said...

Having read the Ares mini, I'm wondering where the fuck the whole "Ares doesn't know how to be a father" bit came from. He wasn't perfect by any means (the misogyny he displayed was bound to fuck Alex up), but he was a loving, communicative father who only kept one secret from Alexander. I fully grant that it was a big fucking secret, but given the circumstances I cannot fault him for keeping it. Alex discovering that he is a god, combined with Ares achieving some measure of peace with his own issues, should have made things even easier.

I could buy Ares letting Alexander go, especially for the reasons he stated. Threatening Fury with Zeus' wrath? No problem whatsoever. Ares not knowing how to raise Alex? I call bullshit.

Also I like Phobos, if only for the fact the way he calls Fury Nicholas makes me laugh.

Sentry, as a character, has been horrible mishandled by the writers. It's almost like they don't really know what to do with him, but they still want to use him.

I'm of the belief that he could be a great character. Perhaps in an "Alan Moore on Supreme" kind of way. But there's no chance of this happening while Dark Reign is going on. First Norman and the Void need to be dealt with, only then can the healing start.

Is it strange that I kind of like Ares? I look at the character, and I think "I should hate this guy." But I don't.

I liked the idea of getting a gun from outer space from an alien living downstairs and offing the Sentry. I just find it terribly amusing. Now, if only Sentry would stay down.
