Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:char: amadeus cho, char: hawkeye/kate bishop, char: hawkeye/ronin/clint barton, char: loki, char: stature/cassie lang, char: vision/jonas, char: wiccan/billy kaplan, creator: christos gage, creator: dan slott, creator: khoi pham, group: young avengers, publisher: marvel comics, title: mighty avengers

A gentleman would never kiss and tell.

Four scans from Mighty Avengers #29.

This issue continues with the approximately 200 subplots currently ongoing, including the one where Cassie finds out that Fake!Wanda is evil (well, she already knew that, but this is where she confirmed it), is magically cursed not to say anything, and manages to maneouvre the Young Avengers (and Ronin) into a fight with her without being able to explain why.

I had some issues with Slott's Cassie in some earlier issues, but she's been good in this story.

Heh.

Eventually, Clint decides it may not be Wanda, and, with some help from Wiccan and Patriot, gets close enough to try his infallible detecting method:

Cassie finally gets to explain about the current Inhuman villain, and proclaims "Avengers Assemble" (by which she means: the New Avengers, the Mighty Avengers, the Young Avengers, the Initiative group, and even the Dark Avengers).

Other observations:

1)  I bet Clint finds any excuse to use that detection technique.

2)  I imagine someone will turn out some Clint/Wanda!Loki fic on the basis of that second page.

3)  Again, nice display of powers Wiccan, you managed to mess with a Norse God.

Not in China, no, 'cause fuck those Commie bastards. When it gets to New York, it will be.

I'm mostly worried about this resulting in Osborn getting yet another super weapon to screw the world over with before Dark Reign ends.

How do you think he knew Bucky wasn't Steve?

Well, over in Reborn there appears to be some kind of race to put either Steve or the Red Skull in Steve's body*. So I look forward to seeing them administer the Clint Test.

*I think.

I haven't really been reading this, but has this book had a regular artist for more than two issues? Didn't Stuart Immonen do the last issue?

No, Immonen does New Avengers. Of Slott's run, Khoi Pham has done six of the nine published issues so far (and he was drawing it when Bendis was writing beforehand).

Wow, this looked funny. Is Clint always this "perceptive"?

It's nice to see the Young Avengers being made useful. And I love the Hawkeye's interacting.

So is this arc over now. And what's in store for the next one? I am curious now.

To prepare for such occurrences, all the Avengers took turns kissing each other so they would know when an imposter would be in their midst.

That would have been akward to walk in on.

Thor: Ho mighty Avengers. I returneth from Arsgard with news of grave importan- Steve? Tony?
Steve: It's not what it looks like.
Tony: We're training to make sure we can detect imposters in our midst.
Thor: Of course. Such behaviour is common in sections of Migard. I shalt take my leave now.

Watch just the first and first episodes of the story and the series is AWESOME. :)

The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, the last storyline of the series but oddly the story behind the making of the film the SOS brigade made in the first broadcast episode, is really good.

Lots of character development all around, funny moments, sad moments and a talking kitty. ^^

Really hate the "let's ask the villains to help! they totally should because they want the world to be safe and all, and I'm sure they wouldn't immediately try and capture us or work against us in the course of the battle!" storyline. The only time it works is with honor code type villains. And half the time they break their word anyway. It's just stupid.

Get over yourself Loki, this is surely more tolerable than the time you got knocked up by a horse.

Also, Clint, given Wanda is erratic as hell and you totally took her by surprise, it's not really conclusive. Dope.

Also, 'show us the truth' appears to be revealing a Sif-arm - is this set before Loki took on his male form again? These timelines are really confusing.

Thanks. :) I wish there was an official timeline available, I get so confused. Do you happen to know whether Natasha's capture by Osborn in Reborn took place before or after Natasha's capture by Osborn in IIM?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]colonel_green
2009-09-18 09:20 pm UTC (link)
I would say that IIM comes first, because "World's Most Wanted" started immediately after Secret Invasion, takes place over a fairly limited timeframe, and Bucky is Cap there without any mentions of anything Reborn-related. Notice that other series have been avoiding using Iron Man since "WMW" started to avoid giving away the ending.

Y'know, if all of his/her villanous bombast was done with some sign that Loki's tongue is firmly in cheek, I'd have a lot more tolerance for Marvel's take on her/him. Because part of the joy of trickster gods is teh funny.

Also, the English language needs better gender neutral pronouns than variants of "they".

I know of one English language fandom in manga/anime that uses se for (he/she) and hir for (his/her). The character is a hermaphrodite deity that is technically an ally, but generally chooses to just mess with the main cast's collective heads.

That's one area I think Slott is overselling; it's a weird state of affairs, because he's simultaneously clearly trying to make Hank a really big hero while also playing up "Hank is a weirdo", with the whole Jocasta thing the most prominent part of that.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]bluefall
2009-09-18 10:21 pm UTC (link)
Y'think that's what he's going for? If he is, he's failing badly, because Hank really comes across more as the perfectly bog-standard absentminded scientist who just doesn't notice, while Jocasta becomes a more and more bizarre and unviable character with every panel. I guess if she's a loony that could theoretically reflect on him as her progenitor, except: Ultron and Vision, so, not.

I think the relationship between the two of them is supposed to be creepy on both ends, though Hank's it's a more subtle form of it, you're right. The stuff about how he's her god is just gratuitously weird.

Frankly speaking I do feel some imbalance to things in this book. Partly I attribute them to the hodge-podge nature of the team, that was most likely created to echo classic Avengers teams past.I think the team and the whole set of characters needs some major work, don't you think so?
