Apparently Starfire doesn't only fall for short pants and smooth legs.
[info]saralakali requested scans of Starfire's first boyfriend... yes, there was a man in Kory's life before she got together with Dick. Obviously it didn't end all too well...





Kory's first love story, a singing Dick, Donna wearing an... interesting bikini, a space photoshoot and lots of drama right ahead in New Teen Titans #16 (1982).



Between all the fights and super villains the Titans can still spend some free time at the pool!



Dick is clearly enjoying himself... and who else is staring at Donna's bikini except me? I thought she saves all weird and corded clothes for Kory's photoshoots.
Now Donna tells us how Kory and Frank met:



And here images of Barbarella are flapping through my mind... for once Kory has more clothes on, though.

"He moved closer to Kory, for some reasons my neck hairs bristled." - One penny for your thoughts, Donna!




And there the trouble starts: Donna's apartment got ripped off and everything's a mess! Oddly, only one of the photo session contact sheets got stolen... Dick and Donna start investigating. Elsewhere Kory is on a date with Frank, when some woman loses control of her car and Kory manages to secretly melt street and tire with a starbolt to stop the car. It looks like Frank didn't notice that this is Kory's doing. They go to Kory's and Donna's place...



Just wondering... did Kory have a growth spurt later on? Because that woman is HUGE, but appears the same height as the males around her (or is even smaller despite wearing high heels like in the last panel) in earlier NTT issues.



Happy mood doesn't last long. Frank was actually hired by the H.I.V.E. and gets paid for making Kory fall in love with him in order to get informations from her. To one of the H.I.V.E. agents he admits that he truely likes her, though, so the agent threatens Frank.
At the Titans Tower Robin found out that Donna's stolen contact sheets are connected to the kidnapping of a model; after rescuing the damsel in distress the Titans take off to Frank's apartment to finally meet Kory's boyfriend.
But Frank already had another visitor: he told the H.I.V.E. agent that he wants to break the deal off and tell the Titans the truth. The agent acts like every good agent does and pulls out his gun.





Kory punches Dick off his feet! *GASP*
Of course she finds the H.I.V.E. guy and smashes his wall for starters.




Poor Kory... angry and sad she flies off to their place.

But I love how Donna's and Kory's friendship is displayed here.

He only appears in one panel but Terry Long still comes off as a big awkward creeper.

Actually that film shoot costume was pretty tame compared to the later one where Kory was weaing a skimpy two piece around film reels. I think that was in #42 or so, the beginning of the Judas Contract storyline.

I remember that epilogue being commented on in my local comic shop at the time; the use of silence, the very cinematic pan and zoom to the last panel. Very nice!

Also, Dick in swimming trunks again, and the nice sequence where he's talking to Kory with his costume in sort of "dress down" mode, no cape, open collar, nicely done.

Yeah, I really wanted to say how surprised I was that he managed to sing it all in one falling moment. I would've preferred if it turned out in a [SPLOOSH!] "Grblbrlbbblll~~". Image totally cracked a smile on my face.

It took Dick quite a while to open up enough emotionally to admit he was interested in her properly. It wasn't until after the Blackfire/Citadel War arc that he admitted to himself how much she meant, and they started dating properly.

Also slightly complicated by the Dala and the Monk arc over in the Bat-titles which was running concurrently. Being vampirised into a by a woman you thought you loved might make you a little over-cautious.

Huh. I always thought they had a pretty much straightforward, simple relationship.
