Dark X-Men: The Beginning #3

How did Norman get everyone's favorite shapeshifting freedom fighter to join his X-Men team?

This is from Dark X-Men: The Beginning #3, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Jock. It's sort've a follow-up to Jason Aaron's "Get Mystique" storyline, which involved Cyclops siccing Wolverine on Mystique after the events of "Messiah Complex," causing him to chase her all over the Middle East (where he got the Taliban to help him out) before he gutted her and left her to die.

Continuing from where the preview left off...

There's this page.

Mystique takes out the bikers.

The last page shows Mystique and Norman leaving the bar, which is surrounded with hundreds of soldiers and several tanks.

In every sense of the word.

Both her and Daken love to mess with people, they might get along famously.

Maybe the X-bloodlines will get a little more inter-twined.

Which to me indicates they're getting as ridiculous with Mystique as they have with Wolverine. Since when has she been an uberthreat in combat? The whole point of Mystique was that her shapeshifting powers meant she could go anyplace and make you think she was anyone, allowing her to stab you in the back. Her Raven Darkholme identity allowed her access to all sorts of goodies produced by the US military and intelligence agencies even without pretending to be say Nick Fury and swiping some new toy from SHIELD or what have you. She was more like Mastermind, someone who wouldn't get her hands dirty directly unless she really had to.

If you think about it, the more people you throw at her, the easier time she has. All she has to do is jump into a crowd and start shifting and the enmy won't be able to tell who she is, especially if they happen to be wearing uniforms.

well now that they've added size shifting to her power she would be difficult to hit. And she's a lot smarter than Osborne or the average soldier.

You mean like those times she trained in Murder World so she could kill each and every X-Men with her hands?

Only because she was planning on rescuing her daughter.

And even then, she basically had the Brotherhood distract the X-Men so she could assassinate Xavier alone.

And she killed the RogueBot, with no second thoughts; some rescue mission. Nightcrawler was the only one she couldn't harm.

solid dialogue from the ever reliable jason aaron, and you can't go wrong with jock on art...but i still don't see the point of an entire miniseries to start off osborn's x-men :/

that said, considering how daken's trying to go all machiavelli on everyone in dark wolverine (daniel way not completely sucking for once), mystique er, "mentoring" him might be all kinds of interesting.

When did she become a homicidal killer, huh? It's TOTALLY OOC from her original appearance.

Mystique has never been totally sane, even though her love for Destiny and Rogue kept her grounded for a long time. Now that they are gone, Mystique is reverting to "kill random people for my own amusement" mode.

Since she was impersonating Wolverine and murdering people at random, I assumed she was trying to trash his reputation after he gutted her.

I'm going to pretend that all the 'Wolverine just casually murders whole bars' stories I see are actually Mystique from now on.

Think about it - in the Skrull invasion... Mystique's the only safe one. They wouldn't even bother trying to copy her - they can do her shit already!

Jason Aaron isn't the best Mystique writer.

But I'm guessing most of the people she offed worked for Norman. And if its ok for Fury to kill people just because they're HAMMER agents, I guess it's ok for her too. :p

not the middle east, it was afghanistan - all of that happened during jason aaron's arc on wolverine #63 - #65, "Get Mystique" - snappy dialogue and vicious fun.

Um, no. Afghanistan is not in the Middle East. Basic geography, friend. You can say it's in Central Asia, or South Asia, but not the Middle East.

Relative Location Afghanistan is landlocked, and situated in both the northern and eastern hemispheres. It's positioned in the Middle East, a recognized geographical region of southwestern Asia. It's bordered by the countries of China, Pakistan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.

So basically you are both correct.
