The Blackest Night Hits The War of Light
4 pages from today's Green Lantern #45 by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke. Where we get to see how the other Corps are dealing with the Blackest Night's descent.

After getting into a fight with Sinestro over Hal, Carol makes him confront his memories of love:

Sinestro and two members of his Corps gang up on Carol before being interrupted:

So the Black Lanterns can make constructs.

Throughout the issue we see the Black Rings attacking the other Corps homeworlds and Larfleeze is in trouble:

I do love Larfleeze's reaction, it's very, "ruh-roh Shaggy."

Speaking of his space pants, whatever happened with his assault on the Blue folks anyway?

Or is that where the dead Guardian comes from?

Dead guardian is the one who got killed when Larfleeze first used the orange light. He got killed by the flash of it and his "essence" became part of the orange lantern corp

I think he killed one of the Guardians when they lead the GLs in their attack on Larfleeze.

I'm guessing that the appearance of all these black lanterns causes him to call back his constructs (including the one of him he sent) from his attack on the blue lantern homeworld (either due to break in concentration or current need for protection/all that power)

So the blue guys get saved b/c larfleeze is about to be seriously screwed.

Johns added "Abin Sur was my teacher" to Sinestro's background, which worked. Now he's adding "Sinestro was in love with Abin Sur's sister and her death drove him crazy" as well? I have my reservations about that. Sinestro thinking "So what if I blur the line between control and fascism in order to keep the peace on Korugar" is more creative than

"Chaos on Korugar and love interest getting fridged make Sinestro something something."
"Go crazy?
"DON'T MIND IF I DO!!!"

Will Arin Sur be revealed as Soranik Natu's mother? Because *that* would be cool.

Pretty sure that's exactly the case. They did blank her face out in GLC (even though i'm sure this is her 1st appearance) when Sinestro told Soranik he was her father.

I didn't realize Abin Sur was from Korugar. If that's the case why'd he end up Lantern for 2814 instead of 1417?

Maybe he moved or was traveling in the 2814 sector? Doesn't actually require you to be a native.

In Soranik's origin story, it's never stated that her mother was Korugarian. Abin's people and Korugarians are both damn near red skinned, so it's not like Soranik should look really different from other Korugarians even tho her parents are (assumingly) 2 different species. Arin probably moved to Korugar when her and Sinestro wed.

Hope you get indigestion.

When Larfleeze first got the Lantern and started fighting with his friend (who you can see as the BL on the lower right) over it a Guardian was killed when they tried to interrupt.

God I wondered about this during the Orange Corps arc if the BLs could take the Orange Lantern Bodies that Larfleeze claims. God that's hilarously ironic that Larfleeze is being attacked by his own corps.

I hope this doesn't spell the end of our favorite Muppet. I've loved him so.

I think I said that too. His ENTIRE CORPS is dead. He's fucked about as many ways as he can be, and they will get the orange light. Which, given their thing is about "hunger," makes sense.

Doug Mahnke is in my own mind DC's super-star artist. In more ways than one. I mean, he pretty much saved FC from dying an ignoble death when Jones III couldn't finish.

He definitely needs to get more work. His work is superb, and really puts the POP back into comic books. His work on the FC Superman mini? Pretty much pure complement with Grant Morrison's vision. It just read as comic books should.

Okay, here's the REALLY big picture:

They're on Qward. They're in the antimatter universe. They're not just restricted to this one.

This means they could emerge across all 52(51?) parallels.

It's still a "graveyard universe". It's the universe of Kamandi. That there are New Gods over there doesn't mean there aren't lots of dead people.

I imagine the only Black Lanterns that can make constructs are those who were able to do so with their rings in life, but I could be wrong. Maybe all of them will be able to do so as the power level creeps up.

So let me guess. Arin Sur is Soranik's late mother. That would tangle the web a bit more.

He actually doesn't want to be with his wife. He just wants the pain and memories all gone. During the Cyborg Superman one shot during the Sinestro Corps War, he goes to his wife's grave, digs her up, and rips her corpse in half. It's somewhere in an older post.
