Pre-Crisis: General Zod speaks on crime and punishment.

Everyone wanted to write the last silver age Superman story, the best know is "whatever happened to the man of tomorrow",but this one is from the last DC comics presents, it tries to close the book on the phantom zone and such now that superman was positively,absolutely the ONLY survivor of krypton (LOL)

How Jor-el found the negitive zone and its consequences...

	I really like the idea of Zod trying to use an army of Bizarro-like creatures to take over Krypton. The executioner's monologue is also pretty great. Also, what is that talking to Zod on the last page? Post more! (Reply to this) (Thread)

Its a very odd story, becuase its pre-crisis charcteres but told in the post crisis formate. The Object is the same device that becomes the eradicator in the post crisis. I like the way Jor-el discovers the Multiverse and then the phantom zone by trying to make a bridge to another universe. I recall a Nightwing/Flamebird story from the Sperman Family where an evil Jor-el escapes his universe to make it to Kandor or something (?) Anyone ?

The headband was the symbol of a free man of Krypton, after an old Kryptonian incident where slaves overcame a tyrant by using headbands as slings, garrottes, etc. (One of the better World of Krypton stories by Elliot S. Maggin.) Come to think of it, we've seen Jor-El asleep with it on SEVERAL times.

Too bad the original Superboy stories are no longer in continuity. One could explain how a small-town inventor/professor invented the "imperfect-duplicator" ray that created the original Bizarro (who was a Superboy foe, not a Superman one) by saying General Zod influenced the Professor's dreams, leading him further along than current science shold have allowed.

	This is a very very good issue, so was Gerber's earlier 3-issue "Phantom Zone" miniseries which featured some plot threads which finalize here. (Reply to this) (Thread)

	Four issues. I think it's neat that the Aethyr skull thing is here. It's too bad DC abandoned Gerber's Zone. Why doesn't the wall and manacles disappear with Jax-Ur though? (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	Either the shackles are specially treated to be PZP proof, or else the Projector only transmits organic materials (and prison garb on Krypton was a cotton analog) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	The manacles etc were specifically treated to be immune to the Phantom Zone projector. Presumably this was not something you could do to yourself or the Kryptonian criminals could have teflon-coated themselves... Four issues, of course. I was probably thinking of World of Krypton. I like the Pre-Crisis fat of Krypton a lot more than the current version. Post-Crisis (according to the initial Byrne retcon, anyway) it seems like Jor-El just comes back from an expedition one day and says 'wifey, the planet's gonna go kaboom any second now. Not to worry, though - I've taken the liberty of sticking our son on a rocket ship, so he'll be fine. Whoops, looks like it's happening now; there he goes, oh, by the way, did I ever mention that I love y...' BOOM!
Pre-Crisis, however - well, that first page does a pretty good job of summing it up. Jor-El SQUIRMS. He knows that the planet is going to blow up, but he can't stop it, and his warnings come to naught. I'm not surprised that he tosses and turns in his bed, and sweats a lot and drinks too much coffee. Imagine - just imagine - what such knowledge would be like. A whole world - history, culture, artworks, monuments, follies, triumphs - all of it gone. Not simply your own life's work, everyone's. Everyone, everything, every living creature on the face of the planet wiped out in a matter of minutes. This expresses that pretty well.
