"Ghosts"

This is from Green Lantern Annual #7. It's written by Steve Vance and illustrated by Ron Lim; the cover is by Bernie Wrightson.

Though Hal doesn't show up the story takes place during the "Emerald Knights" storyline, where Kyle went on an accidental time-traveling trip and ended up unintentionally drawing a past version of Hal into the present.

While dealing with a pile-up, Kyle runs into another Green Lantern...

Later...

Kyle escapes and flies through the rift.

Kyle starts to kill the other Green Lanterns, thinking "Just keep telling yourself-- they're already dead. They're already dead!"

Kyle breaks through the remains.

That's gotta be the scariest god damn thing. Seeing this horrible skull thing just peeking out at you through a universal tear.

Nekron is creepy as hell.

It's a lot less scary when you automatically give him Skeltor's voice in your head . . .

Give him Tony Jay's, instead.

Skeleton Warrior reference for the win? (or am I being too geeky with that?)

Wow, I haven't heard anyone outside my family reference that....ever.

An under-rated show that one, and a rather nice (if grotesque) line of action figures.

Plus Tony Jay as "The Oracle Skull"

I remember liking it. I wonder if it's available anywhere, I wouldn't mind seeing it again.

I'll take that win. I need as many as I can get, these days.

This one always bothered me. Ol' Crabface shouldn't have lasted a second against Kilowog. I'll just have to go with the "Spooky Ghost" version wasn't as strong as the living one.

Eh, Kilowog was fighting himself, of course.

Ever thought maybe "Ol' Crabface" is maybe better then you give him credit for?

no, people who dislike characters never give credit.

No, the dead weren't really trying because they were being controlled by Nekron.

So, are these Zombie Lanterns different from the ones we've seen before, or is their different appearence an artist thing?

They're different. As Nekron said, he didn't make those zombies. They were resurrected by the actions some wizard on Earth ("Ghosts" was that year's overall story for the Annuals featuring, well, ghosts and zombies). Not related to the Black Lanterns at all.

Maybe because he'd look like Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

Damn it, now I want to Photoshop the Blackest Night Cover with Achmed in it.

Mogo came back in Green Lantern Vol. 3 #158-159.

It's like I thought from the start: what he's doing now is no different than what he's done all along. This time he simply got the drop on the Guardians because this time, he snagged one of their own.
