and still you ask , why didn't superman ever visit the (pre-crisis) Legion ?

So, Legion of 3 worlds is over I would say I really enjoyed it, I take a moment to recall someof good/bad reboots the book has had...

Pocket universe - Yuck, I cannot imagine how (even tho' it was John Byrne) that anyone at DC ever thought this band aid would hold.

Valor replaces Superboy- This was ok, seemed to solve the problems. I even liked how DC explained all the near human races in the UP by making them seed colonies started by Valor. This was the only good thing to come out of "InVasion" Valor rescued humans the Dominion was experimenting on, they didn't want to go back to earth so he put them off on different planets. 1000 years later they hail him as a hero for it.

5 year gap - This was the awful "grim and gritty" period that shat all over most comics blah-blah... Adult Legion does not work.

Superboy a myth?- In the midst of a post-crisis version of the great darkness saga both sides go looking for Superboy , they find out that it is not Clark Kent ? Futher down the timestream they find "a" Superboy (Conner Kent) but he doesn't seem to match the Legend at all. I liked this for once you got to have it both ways isn't this what everyone wants ??? DC pitched it away quickly and replaced it with "Emo-Legion" (rools eyes)

Also what was up with the memory thing? At one point Saturngirl claims she erases superboy's memory when he goes back into the past to preserve the timeline. Finally, when DC decided to have a Legion book with no superboy she supposebly put the final whammy on him so he will never go into the future again to spare him trauma over his parents death. However in Superman 500 there is a Legion exhibit in the Superman museum and Superman laments that he doesn't see them anymore...

I seriously Wish Geoff Johns well, the fan deserve something good .

	I always hated that they changed Element Lad's costume to that awful pink(the same one I've remarked on before that DC seemed so fond of in the newsprint era). Why? Well, because during the 70s, Element Lad had one of the sharpest-looking costumes in the Legion, the black and green one. Seemed a needless change... (Reply to this) (Thread)

And yes, I liked a lot of the 70s Legion uniforms. Which, I think, were Cockrum's designs, not Grell's? A few from before too--Brainy's has something perfect, basic and solid in its retro plainness that always makes it look wrong when changed, and Shadow Lass has mostly just pared it down.

Some were horrible: Cosmic Boy. Who, like many others, did get a decent redesign from Giffen.

Some, like this or Shrinking Violet, I never understood why they changed, except that Vi's might be hard to draw with all its designs and stuff. Some were so good they survived mostly unchanged since the 70s--Star Boy, Lightning Lad, Dream Girl, and my personal all-time favorite Phantom Girl. I'm sorry, Y'ALL call me whatever you want, but growing up, a big appeal of the 70s Legion was how much skin you saw in that book by comparison to other comics. Seriously, I think only the fantasy comics like Star*Reach went further. (Jim Starlin's WARLOCK would be another, and Starlin did work on the Legion, that two-parter where Brainy went mad, which I found recently and might post)

One of my only exceptions in my war on pink would be Saturn Girl's uniform at the time, probably the scantiest possible female costume in the 70s. And just about the only time any attempt was made to make her sexy--mostly otherwise she's depicted as something of an ice queen, or these days, a bit of a geek. Which is probably the better take, but I did like thee costume.

But hell, in that stuff even Infectious Lass, god help us all, looked sexy.

	Element Lad's costume STARTED pink with an E on the front of his chest, and then switched to the blue green number (Which, whilst great, was about as subtle a Freduian design as one might imagine). This was just updating his old look with Interlac and a redesign. (Reply to this) (Parent)

This is late Swan. From the 70s onward he slimmed him way down, away from the Wayne Boring template, which he indeed did continue for a long while. But from Murphy Anderson inking him onward, he was more like Gary Frank's physique for him recently.

I prefer that actually. I find that Superman much more relatable than the barrel-chested big-chinned guy, and his powers have nothing to do with his muscles(if Supergirl is any indication). But I grew up with the slimmer one, so I'm biased.

Besides, 50s and 60s Superman looks like he has emphysema.
