Night of the Living Dead
4 pages from Green Lantern #44 "Only the Good Die Young" by Geoff Johns and Doug Mahnke.

After being attacked by Black Lantern J'onn, Barry and Hal manage to get away by falling into a Fire Department.

J'onn wonders something his fans have wondered for years:

Barry and Hal discuss J'onn's return:

I told you Hal should watch out now that Barry's back :

Gah. Zombie J'onn is so creepy.

(And this is gonna sound weird, but I really *love* the way Doug Mahnke draws teeth. Especially in that splash page. I just keep looking at Hal & admiring his nice teeth)

Well that's good, cause it looks like Barry's gonna be making a necklace out of them real soon!

Wow, I didn't notice that, but I love the teeth too.

Not to mention that car radio in front of Barry's thigh. I kept looking at that and going, "Hmm, that's still in pretty good shape."

man, zombie Jonn really is scary

super strong, super powerful telepath, shapeshifter, can turn invisible . . .
they better hope that he's still afraid of fire, or the DC universe is screwed

So, I wonder...if he's now a zombie, does that make him even more vulnerable to fire?

Even if it did, he's dead, would he care?

Wasn't though that in the old zombie movies, you'd kill them with fire? Or light a fire out of a corpse to keep them away? I seem to recall this from night of the living dead and several other zombie movies a fear/weakness to fire. It was like since they were already decaying courses, fire would tear through them easily.

I keep thinking that's why frankenstein feared fire too, cause he was made of old corpses. Course this was before the modern "kill zombies with a shotgun" method

It's certainly a trope, although I always thought it was just creatures of the night fearing fire thing, because bodies really don't burn as easily as you'd think.

J'onn, if you didn't routinely hold back out of concern for other people's well-being, we wouldn't forget that you are quite scary. We know that you're either the second or third most powerful Black Lantern zombie (behind Kal-L and possibly Firestorm); it's just that you never take it past 7, much less going to 11 like you are here.

J'onn could kick Kal-L's ass. I have no doubt, he just has too many varying powers for Kal to compete

Especially with the telepathy. That alone is enough to mess up Clark, let alone the intangibility, shapeshifting, and super-duper-strength.

Then again, Kal-El does have that heat vision...

It took him about a second to take down a spitting-mad Ultraman in EARTH-2.

He's more powerful than any of the Supermen. He can turn invisible; he can invade minds; he's telekinetic; he can change shape; he can become intangible; and this is in addition to almost all of Superman's powers. Heat vision counts for little when it can pass through you.

He was just being nice when he was alive.

when you say powerful most people think strength. I think SUperman is physically stronger and faster.

I wonder if Hal will remember that in the past GL rings have been used to create devices to block telepathy.

If you remembered that, you know GL Fanboy #1 Johns does too.

Actually, MM also has "Martian vision" - another name for heat vision.

Other powers include X-Ray vision, breathing underwater, having nine senses, and regeneration. (Thanks Wikipedia!)

Kal-L is even stronger than our Superman (who is considerably stronger than J'onn), is just as resistant to telepathy, and presumably has pre-Crisis style 'powers as the plot demands'.

Well, if there was ever a case in the Rumbles / Fights department for Speed vs. Telepathy, it looks like Telepathy beats Speed hands down.

Depends on the speed difference actually, if you can run REALLY fast (like Flash or Silver Surfer fast) you can do stuff before the telepath even has time to think.

Hey, something occurred to me. Except for one, the entire Orange Corps is dead.

Poor Larfleeze.

Also: if vengeance is at all part of this, the Joker, it seems, has a reason not to sleep. (And hasn't he come back to life a few times? And Ra's? This is starting to make my head hurt)
