So far, the Kamandi strip remains the only thing I like unreservedly in Wednesday Comics. It's funny how the strip that wears its old school homage most prominently on its sleeve should also be the least self-conscious thing in the entire book. Kamandi is being done by two guys who really understand how comic strip storytelling works, and aren't wrestling with trying to shoehorn comic book story pacing into another medium. Sorry, but to me quite a few of the other strips suffer from precisely that.
Also, picking Prince Valiant as their template was a doubly smart move, because it's a strip Kirby loved and borrowed from pretty freely himself. So it feels natural and gives a sense of a circle being closed, metaphorically speaking.
