Batman says, "In my heart, I've always wanted a daughter."
OR: "Penny for your thoughts, 'Uncle'!"

Well, I'm glad he doesn't regret Dick.

I love to see heroes relaxing at a party. And the JLA really likes a party.* Or a funeral. This one's a party.

*Check out the JLA tags for more parties. And funerals.

And again, the party-time leering at Huntress. (I've seen it before, but I can't find it in tags. Last time, less these guys, more Ollie and Wally, I think.)

Um... okay, Batman.

Ollie and Hawkman...drunk and singing and embracing? Tell me someone had a camera when they kissed. (And that's how they got Ollie to shut up about Dr. Light)

I've never known what to think of Dillin & McLaughlin. It looks solid and sloppy at the same time, and I thought so as a kid too. It's like the zenith of "competent" DC-Bronze Age art. Funny how they always had these guys on the big books, and the really good ones on the small ones they didn't promote. Ah, but that's probably because guys like Dillin always were on time.

I will say this: Anything but Sekowsky.

"Never be ashamed of your name." Says the guy with a name like a Viagra slogan.

Completely unflashy art. Solid without being blocky, fluid without being too sketchy. Yes. It's a fine line, and Dillin/McLaughlin didn't always make the right side of it, but the JSA looks damn good here.

Why do I hear the Brokeback Mountain music playing in my head all of a sudden?

"I've always wanted a daughter!"

Um... okay, Bronze-Age!Bruce. :D

(No thanks for the combination between the dialogue and the once-over art, creators.)

Ollie and Hawkman getting drunk together makes me happy. Then again, I'm pretty easy to please where Ollie's concerned - I laugh because I love.

I'm thinking maybe he's tipsy by this point and tonight, Batman's getting a little maudlin with the JLA.

Interesting! This might be one of the very few times she was ever referenced outside of her appearances ...

"The Rover Boys"...?

*looks up on Wikipedia*

Wow, even the kids in the seventies probably didn't know what Dinah was talking about. They're public domain!

And Earth-Two Diana seems weirdly naive for an Ancient Greek type.

"Wow, even the kids in the seventies probably didn't know what Dinah was talking about. They're public domain!"

It was a common enough reference that the kind of kid who read comic books would have known what it meant, even if he wasn't familiar with them first hand.

At least, when this came out, I didn't think "What the hell is she talking about?"

Oddly enough, that reference seemed less dated then than the "Raymond J. Johnson Jr." one that the Star Spangled Kid makes seems now.

Oh he'd never regret Dick, he just regrets not making him dress up in pretty dresses more often.

But he'd just end up jealous. He couldn't carry it off like Dick and when he wore the dress, Bruce always ended up feeling frumpy.

What's ironic is, they felt it necessary to footnote Dick, while these days it's the reference to Silver that's most likely to get a "wha-huh?!?" from readers. Oh, Bat-beards, you so transient!

I love how we're not supposed to remark that Bruce has a serious habit of falling heels over head in love with women that he forgets as soon as they join nunneries.

anyway, always glad to see the original huntress.

Dr. Mid-Nite: "We're only human, after all!"

Superman: "Ahem."

Dr. Mid-Nite: "Oh crap."

Next: Dr. Mid-Nite attends mandatory sensitivity training.

Mitigated only by the fact that Superman just HAD to retort

"Human? Do I LOOK human to you? Oh crap"

so had to join him on the training course.

And even though the Super-Sons turned out to be just a computer simulation, this is still major Batdickery to Bruce Junior.

Now I wonder if those guys ever had an Earth-Two adventure and met his transdimensional sister/counterpart. (Clark Jr./Huntress: the Captain America/Iron Woman of DC?)

In that top panel Dinah looks like she knows that the only thing getting her through this party is heavy drinking.

And I think she is pretty drunk by the time she's start getting in Diana's face about "her man."

I'm hearing Batman's reply to Huntress in the voice of the Professor from Futurama:

"Just daydreaming about might-be's and may-have-been's. Nothing, really... Nothing at all."

Should be followed by a deep sigh and a comment about nobody appreciating half-monkey half-clone offspring any more.

Helena in that "Penny for your thoughts" panel does not look friendly at all! Yes, Bruce, she sees all that leering you're sending her way, and she's thoroughly creeped.

I love how Ollie and Katar can switch from best buddies to at-each-others-throats at the drop of a hat (or silly winged helmet). My prolly favorite example is from Kevin Smith's run on GA. What a mess!
