You can totally tell that someone's been watching a lot of Doctor Who...

The next scene is years later, after the Plutonian's heel turn. He tells Qubit to choose ten people to live.

To clarify what happened, those people who were heat-visioned are not the ten chosen. The ten are the ones in the background in that final panel.

A cheese obsessive techno genius inventor makes me think of Wallace (of Wallace and Gromit fame) as much as the Doctor, though the apologising IS very Doctorish true.

I thought the German exclamation was very Doctor-ish, too. It would fit perfectly alongside the likes of "allons-y" and "molte bene."

I find a significant flaw in this. I don't believe a person who could kill millions casually ever cared enough that having to choose between them on who to save would be painful.

It's probably some ass-dumb reason that involves Plutonian being able to crush life as if by choice or something. "Having this kind of power is like being able point at a person...any person...and know you held their pitiful life in your hand. As such, as it was in your hand, it was your choice whether to open your palm and let it fly away or to clench your fist, crushing life from it with nothing more than a thought." You know, the same kind of thought that goes into emo poetry at MySpace.

My feeling through all of this is that the big guy doesn't really seem to have any real human emotion or empathy. He's just pretending, mimicing, like a sociopath or an alien. I dunno, maybe that's the point.

true. But if that's the case then he doesn't actually know what all the responsibilty feels like so he's just guessing when he kills all but ten people as a demonstation.

What was Qubit's big plan at the end?

For saving the people or for stopping the Plutonian?

At first I thought you said Tony Stark is a dick but then I realized 'Oh that Tony, not the one I thought'.

Hah! If I do another Irredeemable entry someday, I'm stealing that joke for my cut text.

So is Qubit German, or just multi-lingual? and what does 'Ausgezeichnet' mean, anyway? In any case, I like him; we need more eccentric inventors (assuming that's what he is).

He refers to his friends as "mates," so he's not American, at least. What he actually is hasn't come up anywhere, though.

And yes, an eccentric inventor he is.

The worst thing about this is that it's led me to have a newfound appreciation for Bendis' Powers arc, "The Sellouts", all over again.
