A question about Teen Titans #72

In Teen Titans #12, Rose Wilson gouged out one of her eyes.

Now, in Teen Titans #72 we get a flashback to that scene.

I know Slade can be a real asshole, but does this strike anyone else as out-of-character (especially given how he looks horrified in #12 when he sees what Rose did)?

Also from #72: Aquagirl's magical swimsuit, which she can turn invisible at will.

Tacked-on retcon.

Ugh.

Exactly.

I'm sorry, I prefer my Slade with shades of grey, not a complete asshole.

It always makes me giggle when I see people complain that DC lacks has lost its moral ambiguity.

Let's face it. Moral Ambiguity and DC Comics are not exactly Oil and Water, but they're pretty darn close. DC flirts with it in a title or two through the years, but then we see it snap back to the standard DC set up ages ago: Black and White Morality.

I love it when it's happens, but know that it will never last.

I mean, c'mon, how many times has Raven turned evil so far?

In fairness, the first scene is an example of a heinously erroneous Rose, so if given the option of one or the other I'll let Slade be the retcon fall guy every time.

That's because she had the serum in her (that he gave her the serum in the first place isn't a retcon).

IIRC she went *with* him quite willingly, though. I no longer find that particularly plausible now that I've read stuff with her prior to TTv3, so nothing that flows from it, like frex that she's even around for him to give serum to to make her all eye-stabby, seems plausible either. Fruit of a poisoned tree and all that.

To be fair, is the Ravager bakcup story, with creative team different from Teen Titans proper (as of now).

Given that Rose is suffering from hallucinations for a good portion of her backup, I could see those "flashbacks" as being fairly unreliable memories from Rose.

I think more a modern day dream sequence sort of thing. Modern Rose suddenly realizing she's bleeding and Slade is there. Since she doesn't realize it's a dream it can't be the time she cut out her eye, because that already happened. So she asks what's going on and reacts to the situation as modern Rose would.

For a while now, I've been contemplating posting viniet's from "My Own Take on a Comic Universe". Between the crap they've been through overall, I'm fluxtuating between posting about Wondy first or about the Titans.

this may have been mentioned before but why did Rose stab her right eye if Slade's left eye is the one he's wearing the patch from?

Eesh. And I found how she was acting odd as it was. And yes I can only assume she makes her bikini from water magically at this point.

My theory is that the carefully located water splashes are meant to tease the reader that she's nude, when they are in fact hiding the suit itself. Tricky, tricky, Mr. Penciller!

Stop me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the serum provide some sort of healing abilities? Because if so, then Slade could (be fanwanked as) be concerned about stopping the damage and healing the wound first/stopping her from having a panic attack.

His expression in the second and third panels depict him as very unhappy about the situation. To me, he looks like he's just realized Rose can't continue this way, and I wouldn't be surprised if this were retconned further as the moment when Slade started looking for a good home for her.

That's my theory and I'm holding to it.

I assume the serum affects each person differently since it gave Rose super precognition and the like while it did nothing and no mention of healing powers with Cassandra Cain.

Wasn't it a different serum that he was using on Batgirl? I was under the impression that the stuff he was using on Rose was the last supply of what turned him into the man he is today, whilst the crap he was injecting Cass with was your common-or-garden mind control drug?

The serum gave Cass anti-precognition, to the point where Tim Drake could beat her.

I like how they went and completely turned Deathstroke around, renouncing all the character development Marv Wolfman had him go through during his Teen/New Titans run and the Deathstroke title. I'm not sure whose idea it was, but Meltzer's Identity Crisis and Johns' Teen Titans is where I noticed it first.

Nope, that's the way Geoff Johns intended it, as far back as TEEN TITANS #12 where Bart Allen and Cyborg surmise that Deathstroke had been pumping Rose with the Deathstroke serum, and it made her psychotic. Also confirmed in person by Geoff himself. "It's the serum," he said.

read her history:
http://titanstower.com/source/whoswho/rose.html

The new flashback merely relates "what happened next", as the serum started to wear off. When Rose was under that serum's influence, her life was a living nightmare. That's why she's as damaged as she is now. Sean McKeever has done an excellent job of continuing Rose's story where Geoff left off.

And yeah, I'm not a fan of the "new" totally evil Deathtroke. I liked the morally ambiguous Slade Marv Wolfman created. Not asshole that preys on young girls. But that's what we get now.

That Deathstroke gave her the serum in the first place isn't a retcon. That he continually had to give it to her like this, or that he would give it to her right after she gouged out her eye (especially since he was prepared on leaving her right before), is.

You can select automatic or kinetic fake watches , so you need not replace batteries at all. But a quartz replica Omega offers accuracy. Choosing the right replica Panerai does matter.
