Power Girl #2

Ultra-Humanite is telling PG his origin. We first see him as a sickly little boy. Then...

We see a giant albino gorilla in a cage.

Later,  the Congolese army arrives. The general tells them to kill the rebels.

As Ultra-Humanite kills all the soldiers, Satanna watches in glee.

...I don't know what creeps me out more. Satanna wanting him as a gorilla, or covered in blood.

... okay, I have no background in medicine, but those stitches on the Humanite's head look a bit odd- the two at the side could make sense, but the one in the middle?

Wow, Satanna. I haven't seen her since Palmiotti's use of her in the last run of Hawkman where she was collecting vintage Led Zeppelin vinyl and had a gratuitous catfight with Kendra Saunders. Palmiotti has a thing for her, methinks.

In other news, EWWWW to this entire sequence. The writing, the art, everything.

So that's the Humanites origins huh?

At what point did he switch out to the Lex Luthor body from the first time he fought Superman.

Am I the only one who's shocked that a origin that's so needlessly bloody and perverted actually makes Ultra-Humanite less threatening?

Ten bucks says that this crappy version is ignored in a year and we get the bad ass back.

A little-known fact is that this was actually how the AIDS virus went from the simian population to human. Damn that Ultra for not thoroughly checking before the operation.

Eh, they referenced a similar thing in the Justice League/JLU cartoons.

Though it was Grodd with human women, rather than a gorilla with a human brain in it.

Well, that's seven shades of "Ick!"

However, it is worth mentioning that gorillas have very, very small penises compared to their body size, humans are proportionately MUCH better equipped.

Yeah, I liked Ultra-Humanite better as a straightforward Golden-Age evil genius who was the first to be any sort of match for Superman. Not every villain needs a backstory.

And what's up with this Satanna person wearing an angrypunk cutoff t-shirt in a university lab? Is it meant to show that she and U-H have complete disdain for rules and authority? I'd think that point is established with, y'know, their experiments. Geez, while they were at it, why didn't the artists stick a swastika tattoo on her forehead and show her cooking up smack in a spoon over the bunsen burner? Y'know, just in case we drooling moron readers didn't get that she and UH were evil.

... I don't know what it says about me that my first reaction was, "But gorillas have tiny penises!"

But, seriously. You've put him in a bestial, inhuman body, and now you're about to show him that not only is he a monster covered in blood, he's a monster with 1/3-scale junk. That'd piss off anyone.

Oh, so it's a NEW Ultra-Humanite. Hm, I guess that makes sense. Is the original still dead after Crimson Avenger destroyed his brain?

I highly doubt Johns would be happy if his big Ultra-HUmanite arc was retconned by this... Continuity freak that he is.

Am I the only one who thinks that the idea of PETA protesting makes the pair of them MORE sympathetic, not less?

And oh, yeah, "yeah we know you're gonna die if you can't crack how to make this procedure work, but saving the MONKEYS is more important". No wonder the dude is misanthropist, after that "fuck off and die" from society.
