There's enough blood, lousy characterization and plotting to make up for it, really.

Of course! Healing factor, "lolrandom" character, yada yada.

There's now way this is going to be detrimental to Deadpool's health.

Okay. Aside from the jarring fact of Stryfe's nipples suddenly and inexplicably being BLUE, I'm going to call it: Olivetti draws the worst action scenes since Liefeld.

Dude cannot draw action. Everything looks pasted together like paper dolls.

It doesn't help that Stryfe's telekinesis seems to be manifesting in the form of orgasmic groin-force blasts.

[info]kali921

Or that His Stryfeness would actually say "ARGH!" at being knocked off a precipice. Because he has telekinesis. I almost can't believe that Marvel is still publishing this title; I mean, bringing back Darkhawk? Sure. I'm with Chris Sims - Darkhawk is the nineties at their least offensive. But STRYFE? I'm an old school X-Force girl, I like Cable, but this is so comically bad that I have a hard time believing that the editorial staff in charge of this book aren't sitting in their offices and cubes laughing their asses off that people are actually buying it. I keep expecting random kittens or the Spanish Inquisition to suddenly show up to make it clear that it's parody.

What pray tell is exactly so bad about it? Sure a lot of X-Force has been resurrecting the 90's, but I think that's the point.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Mostly it's bias.
[info]nefrekeptah

I mean, I can't speak for the original poster, but all I have heard of the 90's is it was a time when comics were demanding to be treated seriously when they were at their most immature, substituting sex and violence for real adult issues. It's also known as a time when pretty art took precedence over good stories, and that "pretty art" ain't so pretty by today's standards.

And the X-titles were the worst of the lot; chock full of bad characters, bad writing, bad plots, and completely impenetrable to casual fans. Rife with villains such as Apocalypse, Stryfe and Onslaught; each more powerful than the last, and all about as interesting as cardboard box. A cardboard box with ridiculous proportions, terribly vague motivations, unless of course it doesn't even have motivations, and armed with whatever powers the writers want to give it this week.

Most of what I heard about the 90's X-books is that they should be killed in their sleep, burned to ash, buried in the desert, and erased from the annuals of history. So you understand when I'm a little wary of 90s concepts and characters coming back.

Land is worse, at least Olivetti doesn't have the women taking poses traced from porn in his action scenes.

I really like his facial expressions, though.

He's much better suited towards story-driven uh, stories. I LOVE his art, but yeah. Action ain't his stuff.

So did they kill off Cable or what? How well is this series doing anyways?

Also, getting ripped in half is only a minor inconveince for Wade.

I'm really not sure. But if Bishop is dealt with, as this issue wants us to believe, the whole premise/threat of the Cable series is done with, isn't it?

And by dealt with, I means completely disappears 5 pages before the end. Seriously, he's nowhere to be found in that action at the end.

like that's the worst injury Wade's ever had. of course, his healing factor has been on the fritz in this far flung future but that won't have any effect on present day Wade.

It happened in the most recent Suicide King series. We'll have to wait until the next one to find out what Wade does after head asplodey, but after decapitation he required the head to be placed on before it would heal, he didn't grow a new body/head.

Is it me, or does the art (especially that first scan) look like they're in a video game?

(note: I have not been following this title, so if they actually are in some sort of video game or VR world or suchlike for some reason, I withdraw any objections)

I do not like this artwork. I'm not normally someone who really cares about stuff like that, but I do not like it. I think that really good comic book artwork should straddle the line between cartoony and realism - because, let's face it, a lot of super-outfits would look kinda dumb in real life. Alex Ross can pull off the photorealistic look, but precious few others can - and whoever this guy is, he's not one of 'em. The muscles are way too sculpted and bodybuilder-like, and a lot of the little details are just off. That shot of the girl's hair in the second panel of page two - that looks like video game hair. It's a solid mass. I could draw better hair than that.
