One Perfect Moment - Buster Witwicky
"Who?" do I hear you ask?

Well, Buster Witwicky was the human sidekick of the Transformers, back in the Gen1 Marvel Comics era.

Breaking my own self imposed rule about page count a little...

because I thought this needed extra explanation.

The cartoons had Spike (Who was later introduced in the comics as Busters older brother who'd been away at college without coming home, or ever being namechecked, for nearly nine years!) and the movies have Sam Witwicky, but we know it's really Buster who matters. :)

Buster is the son of garage mechanic "Sparkplug" Witwicky. A smart kid, certainly bright, but not supergenius material, who just happened to befriend the Autobots when they landed on Earth. As you might imagine, his life has been something of a rollercoaster as a result, He's friends with really cool alien robots, but they brought their damn war with them, and his Dad had a heart attack from all the stress. However, Buster is worried about something else too...

Word of advice Buster, when the disembodied head of a weird alien robot tells you to pick up a couple of heavy duty power cables and attach them to your temples... DON'T BLOODY DO IT! There just might be side effects!

Of course what Optimus had done was download the power of the Creation Matrix into Busters head so that Decepticon commander Shockwave couldn't access it to create new troops. Optimus never had a chance to tell Buster what he'd done to him, hence Busters confusion over his abilities.

The bad guys as well as the good guys now know that Buster has the Matrix, and Shockwave has just gone to all the trouble of making a Battroid Valkyrie robot called Skyfire JETFIRE to go get it back. But without the Creation Matrix, he's a soulless shell with no personality, only programming, but he can obey orders..

And away he goes...

Soon, Jetfire encounters Buster, his girlfriend Jessie (The comics equivalent of Meggan Fox I suppose) and his Dad, who are being defended by Autobots Bumblebee and Bluestreak.

"Yours is power unmeasured"? Since when did Bumblebee start talking like Claremont via Lee circa 1964? But never mind

And that one perfect moment my friends, is why you never EVER mess with humans, especially those you think have no powers worth mentioning. They will tear you apart.

I love that page, the sense of scale, and power and just sheer WTF!?! is brilliant.

As I've said before, I have a soft spot for characters who are people first, heroes second, and superbeings third. Folks who do the right thing because it's the right thing to do, no matter how hard, and whether they have suitable powers for the job or not. (and if they happen to cute blonds too, well that's just gravy (So I'm shallow, sue me!))

I'm sorry, but...

Spike showed up in the sometime in the mid thirties so I'd say that was only three years

Did he? I thought he only showed up near the end to become the new head for Cerebros and thus the new head for Fortress Maximus.

Happy to be proved wrong!

that's when he did show up. But the Headmasters arrived on Earth in issue 38. Spike himself might have shown up an issue or two before, I'm not sure.

Much as I love Furman, the early days of the Marvel comic were really fun.

They started out as really fun, serviceable stories. Somewhere around Buster Witwicky And The Carwash Of Doom, and wrestler Microbots, though, something went horribly wrong.

Just wanted to mention that the cartoon had a girlfriend i it, too. Her name was Carly (which was ironic for me personally, because a girl I had a major crush on at the time was also named Carly), and was actually married to her when the timeline jumped to the future of 2005.

Indeed, and contributed half the DNA to the hell!sprog known as Daniel. (Well, actually, I have nothing against him, but he was something of a focus for fan hate).

Spike, Carly Daniel and an unidentified little sibling were also seen in cameo in Transformers Animated, indeed, little sibling was born halfway through one episode.
