Funny that he appears to have reached the lowest point he's ever been, except the majority of the reasons for his previous bouts of depression (the deaths of Bart, Conner and Steph) have all be retconned within the past few months.

And judging from the September solicits he's going to hear about Conner and Bart coming back soon, as well.

	Yeah, he killed the Spook back in his introductory story. Some of the ninjas he fought during during 'The Resurrection of Ra's Al Ghul' probably died too, but they're just mooks so they don't count. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

	I tend to be fairly forgiving given his age and the fact he was raised in an environment in which killing your enemies/opponents is treated as perfectly natural. There's a a warrior ethos at work there that is totally alien to the majority of the Batfamily and most other people, so yeah, I fully admit to having a different set of standards for him. Yes, but--

look, I have a thing for unlikeable characters, and even I don't like him. I mean, I could see how he'd be a fun and interesting, if he wasn't such a little Mary Sue. Like, if he was Talia's cousin or nephew or something--her apprentice, even--that she dropped on Bruce to learn detective skills or how not to be a douchebag or something, then I would probably like the character a bit more. It's this omgbruce'slonglostson! thing screams badfic to me. I also don't feel like he's being written as a scarily-precocious child so much as a teenager who's nominally a kid, and I think even scarily-precocious is too Sueish when dealing with a long-lost assassin-trained son of Batman and Talia Al-Ghul. Plus, he hasn't interacted in a meaningful way with any of the characters, especially the characters it'd be most interesting to have him interact with--Cass, most obviously, and Helena.

Yes, well, that's an entirely different (and equally legitimate) reason not to like him.

I like him because he is so over the top ridiculous. I'm not terribly offended by his Mary Sueish ways, I think they're hilarious (particularly because he is SUCH a dumbass, despite all his abilities and talents). A lot of characters in Batman are Mary Sues, most of them have simply grown out of it. I like to assume that Damian will eventually develop in a nuanced and meaningful way, but I have a lot more patience for that sort of thing than most*.

Though I certainly agree that he needs to interact more with the rest of the Batfamily, particularly Cass. She has the ability to put him in his place pretty quickly, both in terms of her fighting prowess and the fact that she has a background similar to his and could offer genuine insight (if she so desired). She was also raised to be a weapon and treated less like a person than a means to an end. The methods and the results were vastly different, but ultimately he has more in common with her than most.

I get that there are a lot more reasons to dislike the character than like him (both in terms of characterization and at a more meta/critical level), I'm just willing to be that annoying person who champions him because I think there's a worthwhile character in there.

*Not that a high tolerance for bullshit and questionable writing is something to brag about

Geez, what a missed opportunity. I mean, c'mon, if Dick becomes Batman, and Damian becomes Robin, then there's NOBODY filling the Nightwing costume! It's obvious Tim needs to take up that identity and become the new Nightwing!

Yes, I know about Chris Kent, but as far as I'm concerned, Nightwing stopped being a Kryptonian hero a long time ago. He's part of the Bat-Clan now.

	I am still defining my freehand at this point, but I do understand what you're saying. It's just that with the old designs I couldn't have closeups, perspective changes or people changing position like Tim in the last panel, for example. I have downloaded a photo-editting software and aim to try and colour them in the future though. (Reply to this) (Parent)

Ah, it's no problem.

Basically Cass was the character that got me into reading mainstream comics, starting with the No Man's Land trades as I was on a post-apocalyptic binge at the time, so I got kind of annoyed when the Beechen-retconning happened.

Plus she's got a good design, so it's easy for people who know who the charcter is to know who is she when I draw her in costume.
