War of Kings #5 Preview
Plus, an Abnett and Lanning interview related to the end of War of Kings #4 (so spoilers, obviously).

The issue that just came out, of course, ended with Majestrix Lilandra Neramani being assassinated by Darkhawk (or one of them, anyway). DnA discuss this development at Newsarama.

It makes a certain amount of sense to me. The Shi'ar Empire since Claremont's original story has been in a regular cycle of Lilandra taking the throne, being deposed, and retaking the throne. Given how much DnA have shaken up the Kree and Skrull empires in the preceding stories (particularly the latter, which has more or less ceased to exist), going in a new direction with the Shi'ar (capitalized by burning the bridges with the default good ruler they've had since the 1970s) fits their pattern.

IGN has some pages from the next issue; Gladiator is taking Lilandra's death well:

You'd think someone would have anticipated that reaction before greenlighting the assassination.

Given his powers are tied to his self confidence, the death of the woman he loved and was sworn to protect might have been assumed would have the opposite affect, since he had utterly failed.

Or he's supremely confident that every single person between him and Vulcan is gonna be a smear on the pavement. Either way...I'm pretty sure this was not according to plan.

Guess his confidence level isn't too affected thankfully. Although why do I think he'll be a sacrificial lamb to Vulcan before the inevitable Black Bolt showdown?

he's very confident... that he will avenge her death in the most brutal fashion possible.

Once the anger cools I can see them doing a thing where his powers are more sporadic

That female cousin will probably kill him. I don't they'll have him involved with the new empire afterwards, it'd be too much like Ronan/Kree.

(If Lilandra is dead, that is.)
