I actually read the thing and I don't have a clear understanding of what's going on back there at all, but I shall try.

The gold chick is called Her, and she's looking for Adam Warlock's grave so she can resurrect him and start a new master race with Zombie Adam. For some reason the way she's going about this is likely to Destroy The Universe, which is why she attracted the attentions of Moondragon, the High Evolutionary, and Starhawk.

Starhawk, it turns out, is at this point transgender and married to hirself, and is also hir own adopted sister; it's all very Flowers in the Attic. A page or so before the spanking panel, Starhawk transformed into hir female form to fight Her, coz hir male self has those old chivalrous hangups about fighting women, doncha know.

I'm not really sure where Thing and Alicia Masters, wearing the least flattering spacesuit ever, fit into all this, but they're along for the ride anyway.

	If I remember correctly, Ben is spanking her largely because he's P.O'd that she's helped in the 'kidnapping' of his girlfriend, and she's generally been acting pretty damn snooty of late - claiming to be a goddess, all that sort of stuff - so he figures that a bit of humiliation serves her damn well right.
