Golden Age Wonder Woman
This story was published in 1948.

The Holliday girls are ready for adventure as usual:

Dig the glowing picture of her up top. You know, this entire story takes place at night, which gave it a special feel, that sort of invigorating staying-up-late sensation.

Anyway, the intrepid Holliday girls are doing the Nancy Drew thing.

This was one of my favorite stories when I was little, probably because of the high melodrama:

And, of course, the bondage.

The continuity in this panel broke my youthful brain. It looks like she used superstrength to leap out of the cement and then held up her bracelets for Steve to shoot the chain. And how did she loosen her lasso during the leap?

Oh, motto. Grant Morrison isn't especially interested in Wonder Woman, is he? Is there anybody else with the same "Ooh! Golden age shinies! I shall grab them and run away before the alarm goes off!" attitude who could get us some post-crisis Holliday Girls? Diana needs about thirty galpals to go out drinking with. Wearing matching T-shirts.

A sort of Amazonian hen night?

That would be a great story in the making there.

Agreed, on general principle. I really love those Golden Age heroes who have not just one, but a whole GROUP of sidekicks ready to lend a hand. It's comedy relief, of course, but it's comedy relief that KICKS BADGUY REAR! The Holliday Girls are the prime example, of course, but then there's Daredevil and the Little Wise Guys, the Guardian and the Newsboy Legion, the Red Tornado and the Cyclone Kids, etc., etc. Bring back groups of awesome, ass-kicking sidekicks! The public demands it! (Or they should, anyway.)

A herd of galpals could only lead to an increase in EPIC storylines.
