Ben Boxer was in the original Kamandi series? Wow, I thought he was made up for those awful "...at Earth's End" Elseworlds stories.

He looks a lot better here without the chicken hat.

...now I have the urge to punch him in the gut screaming, "I AM A MAN!!!"

Superman At World's End is perhaps the most entertainly horrible pieces I have in my meager collection.

Wait. This comment strongly implies you have read the absolute worst comic book of all time (that World's End abomination) while never reading one of the finest comic books of all time (Ben Boxer is a lead character through the entire run of Kamandi). That's just...terrible.

I know this is nitpicking, but - how, exactly, would the tigers know that the warhead was CALLED a 'warhead'? I mean, the thing was made several hundred years or so ago, right? And there's nothing actually written on the warhead itself which labels it as such, is there? It would have made more sense if it were called 'the Colossus', or something like that.

Bear in mind, Kamandi was raised in the bunker by his grandfather (no information about Kamandi's parents was ever disclosed) and it was vaguely implied that said grandfather was born before the Great Disaster. (A retcon by subsequent writers established that Kamandi's grandfather was none other than OMAC -- the Kirby hero, that is, not the DC android villains -- but that was later.) So not that much time passes between the fall of humanity and Kamandi's era: merely two generations. There are also references to the animals having access to some old books and recordings of man's time which they imitate, even if they misunderstand a lot of what they've seen.

Also, Dr. Canus knows more than the rest about the past human civilization, so he could easily have told Caesar what a warhead was called. (And certainly chose not to tell him what it could do.)

OK, I guess that makes sense. Still, I would have liked 'the Colossus' better, thematically speaking - it would have underlined the 'I know something you don't know' aspect of post-Apocalyptic civilizations.

As far as how long it has been since the Great Disaster, there are a few clues here and there. Kirby himself said in an interview (which is dubious at best cause he liked to fuck with people) was "less than a hundred years". However Part of Kirby's charm was how much he got away with logic-wise.

I would ad that I like the way the new "Kamandi's world" had the way the virus caused man to go down the evolutionary latter and the animals to go up it. Everyone kinda meets in the middle,
