While I'm sure that Robert Downey Jr. will do a superb job as Holmes - he's got the voice down pat, if nothing else; that is a COOL Holmes voice - he just doesn't LOOK enough like Holmes to be convincing in the role. My picture of Sherlock Holmes is of someone rather thin and severe-looking, with a beaky nose and intensely thoughtful eyes. He should look like someone who, with a single raised eyebrow, can make you feel like you've just incriminated yourself somehow even if you are not, in fact, a criminal. RDJ does NOT look like that, and nothing you do to him will MAKE him look like that. That being said, I'm still going to see the film. It may or may not be a good Holmes film, but I'm sure it'll be enjoyable either way. Oh, and the Loki guy looks like pretty good casting. It remains to be seen just how good of a job he'll do, but those Shakespearians know their stuff.
