Looks like Marvel learned their lesson...
The solicit for Marvel Divas #2 is up.

MARVEL DIVAS #2 (of 4)
Written by ROBERTO
AGUIRRE-SACASA
Art by TONCI ZONJIC
Cover by JELENA KEVIC DJURDJEVIC
After last issue's shocking revelation, Angelica "Firestar" Jones seeks out medical advice...from none other than Dr. Stephen Strange. (Paving the way for yet another diva to enter the fray: The nocturnal Night Nurse!) Meanwhile, Monica "Photon" Rambeau and Patsy "Hellcat" Walker are drawn back into the lives of their ex-boyfriends of the damned: Brother Voodoo and Daimon Hellstrom, respectively. And Felicia "Black Cat" Hardy contemplates a return to her life of crime...the claws are out as this mini-series continues!

So the plusses: They remembered to give us a sense that there's actually a story, and that it doesn't sound like "sudsy fun"; the cover art is gorgeous and doesn't focus on their tits.  The minuses: Sorry, I'm still pissed about the title.

Er...looks like Firestar has grown.

Hmmm. I wonder if there was a major rewrite at the last second.

What does "sudsy" mean, anyway? I tried Googling the word, and the definition I got was "soapy..." So unless the "Divas" spend their time cleaning, I'm guessing that's not it.

I took it figuratively. Like, soap-opera-ish?

They spend their time doing laundry, just like MJ.

I assumed it was meant to suggest soap, like showering or having a bubble bath, and therefore one is supposed to connect that to nakedness.

Sudsy, soapy, bubbly...all the same thing. Light hearted and insignificant most probably has a lot of fan service.

They say 'diva' and no good connotations come to mind. I think of bitchy, demanding, arrogant women.

Yeah, the first time I read the word 'diva' was in an interview with Lauryn Hill saying she didn't like to be called one because it meant 'bitch'. A definition that rather stuck with me!

Too bad that this is essentially the first cover, redone. This is too little, too late. You pissed me off, told me not to buy the book, and then tried to make up for it, and it isnt enough. And i loooove firestar.

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted. And I agree, I have no intention of reading this either. Sorry Marvel, but if we don't punish you for your bad marketing and your assholish EiC, you'll never learn.

The only reason they appear to have "learned their lesson" is because Jelena is doing the cover, and that was probably worked out a long time ago.

As for the story? No. I'm not convinced. Let's regress Felicia to her life of crime? Let's have Patsy go back to Daimon, which brings to mind her past when she was fridged via suicide?

Ugh, I hope not. I prefer crazy Alaskan adventures Patsy. Heck, I think I'll just start thinking that suicide Patsy is the real Patsy's evil emo twin.

While not as awful as the solicit for the first one, half the plot still appears to be about their boyfriends. And Night Nurse, a serious skilled and independent professional is now a "diva"? Blech.

To be honest, that is kind of what the term means, or at least implies. A diva is a leading lady. I don't think Night Nurse quite fits the bill, a bit too low-key, but there's nothing about the term that implies you aren't hard-working, skilled or independent.

Okay, so, Captain Britain and MI:13 ends at 15, and Marvel Divas gets 4 issues...

Hey Quesada! Why not trash Divas and just give the paper and effort going into here for a title that is actually GOOD and needs support?

The lack of intelligent marketing and allocation of resources at Marvel, and in the comic industry as a whole, just boggles me. This is no way to run a business.

Eh. That's all I can really manage is, "eh."

Although I like Night Nurse. I think she's neat, and I always like it when there's some random commoner taking care of some vital need the heroes have (in this case, medical needs). I mean, you always wonder about who takes care of stuff like that. There ARE heroes who aren't invulnerable and lack healing abilities. So who's patching them up?

Just the same, I wonder who tailors their costumes.

Why is no one else bugged about this part? Haven't the NW been dumped on to JLI-levels enough?

Whatever, I still trust Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to make this a fun, enjoyable read.
He's exactly the right author for a book with a strong, all female cast, questionable title and terrible art or no.

On the one hand: if there was anyone at Marvel I would trust to write a silly book about all women, it's Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

On the other hand: it's irrational how much I loathe Black Cat, esp. since I don't think I've ever read a book with her in it. She just seems to be every Marvel writer's personal wank fantasy.

Fortunately, that shouldn't be a problem with Aguirre-Sacasa. He's not that into girls, even if they are cat burglars. XD

Unfortunately, ugh, ye gads, that art. Ye GADS. If the "claws are out," they're only out so they can CLAW OUT MY EYES.

I wouldn't confuse the marketing copy (which was probably written by a 20 year-old intern) with the content of the book. I will reserve judgment on this until I have a copy in my hands.
