Preview: War of Kings Preview Ascension #2

The Raptors begin to make their moves, and an old threat raises it's ugly head.

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

We continue from where we left off, and Razor, the original wearer of the Darkhawk battle armor, and Talon get reacquainted in battle. They plow through the Annihilation army that gave Nova such a hard time.

Blah blah blah, bang bang bang, slice and dice snikt action....

The video game then proceeds to the big bad of the level.. I mean the story. No complex combo moves to win are needed.
If only all other video games were so easy.

Then the foreshadowing begins with a big reveal

I guess Talon doesn't know him very well. We all know he doesn't honor bargains, especially after the last one went so wrong.

	Doesn't this conflict with the end of Annihilation? Didn't Nova & Co., Inc. take the cosmic control rod and stow it somewhere? After Nova's epic pwnage and evisceration-via-fist-down-the-throat of Annihilus, I'm sort of sad to see Annihilus come back to continuity so soon. He should still be licking his wounds. 	Nope. Nova just passed out after gutting Annihilus, and we didn't see what was done with bugg's corpse. I assume that Phyla and Starlord hussled him to a hospital instead of grabbing the rod. Which was kinda dumb, but understandable. Plus, even professional killers seem to forget that pesky habit of actually confirming the kill ;) (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Clearly I need to go back and read it again (for the seventh time). I'd forgotten about that! I'm still aghast that the anti-Annihilus Brigade of Awesome didn't make off with the Cosmic Control Rod at the end of Annihilation in anticipation of someone trying to use it again for nefarious purposes. But I'm assuming that Marvel wanted an out for Annihilus' eventual return, and so here we are with Darkhawk. (Which still makes me laugh hysterically. Darkhawk!)

	Apparently I missed an issue, and not sure that's entirely bad. When I last saw Darkhawk, he had been told by this guy that he was part of a secret order of galactic policemen, and then they were happily heading off somewhere. When did the crazy mind switch thingy happen? (Reply to this) (Thread)

	during that issue you missed. The Brotherhood aren't galactic policemen, they are power brokers. Intergalactic paramilitary unit that decide who is in power, who isn't, and who can use their services to ascend to power, based on a criminal hierarchy and order. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

It's taken a while, but Marvel and DC have finally found another tie-in event to keep me interested in their rotting hulks yet. Blackest Night and War of Kings have me absolutely stoked. Funny that they are both cosmic - or at least cosmic in origin...

Darkhawk has also unexpectedly been one of the stars of the series. It's the kind of solid story that I've come to expect from Abnett and Lanning - decent, interesting characters, fuck-tons of action, interesting plot developments, and a good sense to make our heroes live the ups and downs of costumed life. Also, I've always liked the design...reminds me of Tekkaman...and the story has the sort of sentai-hero origin story that I've always been a sucker for.

	I hope that Darkhawk gets re-heroified soon. He's an interesting character, and undeserving of being turned into yet another villain. (Reply to this)
