An amusing homage
DC has posted sketch version of various August covers at The Source

One that amused me was the cover for Flash Rebirth 5. Not everybody will like it, given earlier discussion.

This is the cover to Flash Rebirth 5 by Ethan Van Scriver.

This is of course a grimdark reimaging of Carmine Infantino's cover for Flash 123 which first introduced the multiverse.

It took me a few seconds to get what EVS's cover was going for, but once I did I found it funny. (Those who are less happy with the grimdarkening of Flash Rebirth may be less amused.) I think the best touch of the new cover is Jay Garrick in the background on the right side.

That's one of those covers that is constantly homaged. I have to admit, I find this version kind of funny. Something about that poor bastard smooshed in the foreground makes me giggle.

Where, oh, where did you get that beautiful icon?!

I wish I knew where the original art came from, I may have to ask tazer_alex, since s/he made the icon. I just had to have it.

He will become a Star Sapphire at some point. He simply MUST.

Speaking of giggling, God, your icon.

Nice. While it sucks for the worker in the forefront, it does seem to come off as slapstick. I'd almost expect him to hold up a sign that says "Ow."

I wonder who this Black Flash is, if Barry just became him at the end of issue 2.

I have MS Paint and little graphic manipulation talent, but here you go.

Judging by the weapon he's holding, he's the mystery figure from Flash: Rebirth #1 who recreated Barry's origin after killing the CSI team.

Yeah that's the best part.

What's with the lightning rod thingy the black flash has?

It's the same weapon as the mysterious killer from the first issue who seemed to foresee the lightning and become a speedster.

I wonder if "Barry-as-Black-Flash" is eligible to be a Black Lantern.

I feel kinda bad for bursting out laughing at the poor guy crushed by the beam, but well. I did. Jay in the background wondering if anyone got the number on that truck is especially fantastic.

It's too bad they didn't do homage covers for the whole series. 2 did Showcase #4...not nearly as funny as this one, but still...
