It was, but at this point it got blown up at some point in the late 1990s/early 2000s, long after the age of digital cameras. Not to mention that doesn't cover Tony's apartment, office, the many many photographs taken at charity events, school functions... he grew up in the age of information.
It's just a really stupid, illogical steal of a plot from a better writer. Hell, they could have done it with some precious irreplaceable trinket (his mother's wedding ring, say), and it would have at least made plot sense, even if I wouldn't personally give a shit for him feeling sorry for himself again.
