Frank's ripping off Baron Zemo. Not surprised, given his usual level of creativity.

Honestly, it's and incredibly stupid ripoff by the writer. Tony Stark grew up in the damn 80s at this point, the son of rich and prominent parents who didn't die until he was away at college in *1990* or so, you know when they had digital cameras, cell phones and the internet, not fucking SEPIA PHOTOGRAPHS. There is no goddamn way there aren't thousands of pictures of him with his parents, quite likely large numbers of them available online in the Getty Archives.

The "burning the last photo" thing made emotional and historical sense for Steve Rogers, who grew up in the 20s of poor parents, when photographs were a rare, expensive and special occasion. Who had nearly all of his possessions vanish into time, who is defined by the loss of his past.

Trying to steal that idea from a better writer to make us go wah-wah for Tony Stark is both stupid writing and faintly distasteful.

Ooh, that is some fugly artwork, especially in the last two panels. Not Larocca-bad, but... that's some really boring pencilling, and the inking and colouring are freaking terrible.

It still makes me wilt a little inside when people say that Sal Larocca's art sucks and I can't really disagree. He used to be good!

...I once bought a Chuck Austen-penned book just because Larocca was doing the art.

Except that what makes this picture beautiful isn't the penciller, but the colorist and inker. Look at the arm muscles and the tree, etc. That guy is the hero here.

I really liked it up until the last couple panels, which look like a completely different (much suckier) artist.

The colors are a little naturalistic, which is always a plus in my book. Nice colors and art that's to my taste doesn't really make up for such lazy writing, though... so I guess it gets a thumbs-down as a whole.

Thank you for proving correct every argument I've ever made about how Norman a) is stupid and b) sucks.

Snidely Fucking Whiplash has more depth as a character.

Not that I disagree with you on Norman, but the stupid here lies with the writer and artist. A fucking SEPIA photograph? The son of rich and prominent parents who grew up in the DAMN 1980s somehow only has ONE DAMN PHOTOGRAPH? Yeah *right*. Stop ripping off better writers, Avengers Under Seige, and Steve Rogers and write something that makes a scrap of logical sense for Tony Stark.

There's evil and there's just petty. We get it Marvel! Norman is not a nice person! I think we've had that well established for awhile now...

This probably would have worked better if they had made up that Mrs Stark had a phobia about being photographed or something like that.

Maybe some other foe already destroying the family home and all the memorabilia. And why Mr. "I've got at least five back-ups of all my armors" hasn't made a copy of a photo.

I could be wrong, since Marvel loves screwing with my head like that, but wasn't one of the Avengers mansions the family home?

It was, but at this point it got blown up at some point in the late 1990s/early 2000s, long after the age of digital cameras. Not to mention that doesn't cover Tony's apartment, office, the many many photographs taken at charity events, school functions... he grew up in the age of information.

It's just a really stupid, illogical steal of a plot from a better writer. Hell, they could have done it with some precious irreplaceable trinket (his mother's wedding ring, say), and it would have at least made plot sense, even if I wouldn't personally give a shit for him feeling sorry for himself again.

I was just pointing out that the house had likely already been destroyed in response to "wouldn't blowing up the family home make more sense?", really.

Wow.. Tony grew up in the 1920's. I'm sure after young Tony finished playing baseball, they all went to the local soda fountain and enjoyed chocolate phosphates while listening to the wax cylinder.

If Tony liked that picture, I'm sure he probably had a zillion copies of it laying around..Maybe used it as desktop wallpaper on computer #45..

So, instead of having Spymaster track down Stark (who I still presume is at large) he has him find an old photograph? Then burns it to get at Tony in some way, even though Tony won't know about it? Osborn's not only a dick, he's an ineffective dick.

What I've never understood in these villian in charge deals, is that how are these felons getting goverment posts? They're barred from such things.

He contacted the Spymaster and hired him. It's not like the Spymaster's working for the government.
