Quality badges in colour! (and a link)

This is from the back cover of WARRIOR# 12, August 1983. Some of the characters depicted are well known today, but others have fallen into obscurity. (Although you never know with fictional characters-- some may be revived and become more popular than before). The V FOR VENDETTA symbol and the accompanying Guy Fawkes mask would be good choices if you could somehow mail a money order for 65p back twenty-six years. The one with the bowler, umbrella handle and rose was for BIG BEN ('the Man With No Time For Crime') but people would almost certainly take it to be John Steed ("Oh, I love THE AVENGERS! Mrs Peel was just so cool!")

Pronably the funniest to wear (and one that works on a metatextual level) would be either of the Pressbutton badges. (Bloodsplattered or clean). Axel Pressbutton himself is shown on badge U. He was a psychotic cyborg, a former florist whose body was almost entirely eaten away by a telepathic plant. His robot body substituted a large button on his chest that, when pressed, stimulated all his pleasure centers. (Considering he had a large cleaver on his left arm, this was not always a safe thing to do.) Anyway, actuaslly wearing a "Press" button opens several different conversational gambits.

Then we have this link to something called TEXTS FROM LAST NIGHT. This is not comics related, but I thought denizens of scans_daily might find it amusing in a horrifying sort of way.

OK, 3 V, 4 Marvelman, 2 Big Ben (and I totally took that first one for Avengers, I admit it), and the three Pressbuttons (thanks for the information on him...I think I'll have to look him up, sounds funky)...

Of the others, I'm particularly intrigued by E (*coughwonderwhycough*), and the two 'I like whar I like' ones (that odd accent, and the second pin just piques my interest)... Actually, the art style on K is familiar enough that it's going to bug me until I know what it is. *prods for information*

The two "I like whar I like" badges relate to that odd little creature on G. This is Zirk (or a Zirk), a polymorphously perverse alien that apparently has telekinetic sex with anything that catches its attention. The green slime on badge H is what Zirk secretes when it's excited (which seems to be often). This varmint turned up in the LASER ERASER AND PRESSBUTTON strip. Badge D shows Laser Eraser, she was Mysta Mystrais, a sort of bounty hunter/assassin of the future. Mysta's partner was Axel Pressbutton of badge U. Quite a pair.

The chap on badge K is drawn by Steve Parkhouse. He's Jobremus, head of the paranormal family starring in Alan Moore's BOJEFFRIES SAGA, which is.. well.. ah, hard to summarize. Badge F shows his daughter Ginda, who can calculate the number of molecules in a neutron star without moving her lips.

He's a perverted little alien creature, with stubby wings and elephant feet. Best to stay away from.

Or seek him out. Whichever turns your crank.

Oh, this takes me back. Well, except in as much as I still have my complete set of Warrior...but it's been ages since I read it.

Given a choice of badge I might go for the Warpsmith, one of my favorite Moore creations.

I would skin a gross of babies with a rusty penknife just for the Bojeffries buttons.
