Batman Adventures #3
I just realized this new s_d is lacking in the Harley/Ivy fluff department. I shall remedy this.

During this time Arkham is, iirc, being rebuilt so when captured the regulars find themselves shipped off to Stonegate. At this point Ivy is going through some plant/body-related changes putting her on edge and doesn't realize Harley has also been locked up leading to a bit of a misunderstanding.

So Harley passes out and is shipped off to the infirmary while Ivy, well...

Harley and I.V. Heh.
Despite being hurt, Harley manages to swoop in and save the day.

Cute end.

Awwwww! The ending! I blame DCAU for my unabashed love of Poison Ivy.

Man or woman, Harley will love someone who wants to kill her.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure Harley's a bit of a masochist.

LOL! A bit? I think she's way more than a bit of a masochist... frex when she says "I ain't felt this bad since Mr. J made me wear the pinata suit..."

Seems to be some consciousness of it in the DCAU. There were two times when the Joker has said something to the effect of: "No one hurts Harley, except for me, of course." (Turnabout and Last Laugh IIRC)

That's not to mention that Harley pretty much confirmed herself as a masochist during her ongoing during a fight with Batgirl and Robin, asking Tim to hit her harder next time.

Yeah although that series sucked, there were some good moments, like that one.
I wish sometimes they'd do more with the fact that she's a masochist (other than the fact that she is the Joker's on/off again)

Seen this one before, but I still love it, especially the ending. Despite Ivy doing pretty much everything humanly possible to drive Harley away, it only results in Harley loving her even more, because Harley's crazy that way.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand then it turns out to be a plant clone.

Which I still MUCH prefer as a concept. The notion was that Ivy was staggeringly beaturiful and utterly toxic to touch. The fun is in the dichotomoy.

When she's already a rather frightening shade of either corpse white with green undertones, or a more vivid green like this, and is no longer flesh at all seems to be missing the point a little IMHO.

I like her better in green. It only enhances her beauty; contrast to the red hair and all. (But yeah, I can see why it's a matter of taste.)

Agreed. Though that might only be because I have a fondness for weird skin colors.

Not necessarily.

The guy who wrote the "Ivy is really a plant clone!" story, later revealed in an interview that he never meant for Green!Ivy to have always been a clone.

Basically, initially Green!Ivy was the real Ivy, who had turned green because her body is funny like that. Then Ivy had adventures with Harley. Then Ivy left, and because she ws worried about Harley, made a plant clone of herself to look after Harley. While she was away, the real Ivy turned pink again, because her body is funny like that. Then clone!Ivy died.

So, the Green!Ivy is this story could very well be the real Ivy :)

Yeah, it was my impression that earlier appearances where meant to be the real Ivy.

. . . I distinctly remember either Harley or Ivy referencing this story when the plant clone business was revealed, either Harley realizing "That's why you've been so mean to me!" (yeah, right), or Ivy having no clue about them sharing a cell in prison.

Maybe both.

Wasn't the issue where the plant clone business was revealed the last DCA issue with Harley and Ivy?

Love this still (even though the ending of the arc was a major let down).

What amazes me to this day is the very uneven and incomplete influence the BTAS Ivy had on her comic counterpart. I don't often say things like "they needed to start writing the comic version like the cartoon version," but... they needed to start writing the comic version like the cartoon version. And we've gotten the odd bit of influence, like her relationship with Harley, but it's inconsistent and just not very well done at all. Her cartoon appearances remain head and shoulders (or stalk and blossom, if you prefer) above the stuff that followed them in the books.

Are you talking about the relationship or Ivy's characterization or both (coz I would agree with both)

Both. We get the occasional bit of her DCAU personality, but it's inconsistently and poorly done overall.

The occasional uses of her DCAU personality include giving her a relationship with Ivy, but it's not pulled off as well.

The two are very different, but I'm not sure if one is really better than the other, in my opinion. In both versions, Harley is devoted to Ivy, but in the DCAU, Ivy sees Harley as little more than a stooge that is occasionally fun to hang around with, whereas in the DCU, Ivy genuinely likes Harley, and has often helped her out of a tight spot. They're both interesting relationships, but I admit to a slight preference for the DCU version - the original is pulled off very well, but it strikes me as a bit of a rehash of the Harley/Joker relationship.

I...somehow have never read this story. I've seen that last image, with Harley hugging Ivy, but not the story. So much fun! I love that there is a legitimate excuse for the two of them sharing a cell at Arkham. So cute.

Bandaged tube top! Squee! And the "who's the president" line is very Harley. Great stuff! And that last panel is hot and d'aww at the same time...which only the DCAU can deliver!
