Introducing the Black Hand!

This is from Green Lantern #29. It's written by John Broome and illustrated by Gil Kane.

So... this is the guy behind the Black Lanterns.

Are we sure it isn't Nekron? I mean come on; Giant interdimensional Death God? Noted for of the GLC, has an MO of using undead super heroes as minions? Making him the mastermind behind the BL makes sense, and is actually cool.

But we're supposed to believe this jackass transformed the Anti Monitor into a power ring, then resurrected a bunch of top tier DC heroes as undead ghouls and gave them rings? Really? This guy?

No, and there's been nothing to indicate that he's more than a minion and a means to an end.

This guy has been hearing voices in his head, which led him to the giant black lantern, so obviously he isn't the guy who made it.

Oh. Good.

Then betting money is still on Nekron being the guy behind this.

I can't believe that hadn't occurred to me. Especially as it gives Johns a chance to tie all GL continuity together with the fewest possible ribbons.

Also I believe that a Tales of GL Corps trade was recently released and in it is Nekron's Story arc. Now Nekron has never been that kind of big bad whose name is mentioned very frequently as a GL antagonist, so IMO DC wanted to introduce newer readers to him so that the reveal in Blackest NIght is a bigger deal.

Weaponized etch-a-sketch. He gets points for originality.

That was my first thought, too.

Count me in on thinking it looked like an Etch-a-sketch.

From before the fourth wall had fully crystallized, I see.

I like how Zen the first crooks are. "Darn it to heck, I really thought we'd get away with it this time. Oh well, there's always tomorrow, eh, guys? I hope the prison is serving that pie again tonight!"

Black Hand and his dildo weapon.

I propose a challenge to Geoff Johns: bring back Black Hand's ability to break the 4th wall and you've got a regular reader.

RING! LOVELY RINGGG! Now to take care of Green Lantern with my silver death console!

Seriously, if I imagine his voice as X the Eliminator it makes all too much sense.

This was, well, all kinds of delicious crack. Perhaps all the more delicious as I have never been a GL fan and so have even less of idea of what's going on.

For some reason, I was logged out when I went back to look at it. For a second I thought that it was taken down ir something depressing like that.

Thanks for the link (...and the post!).

I like Black Hand - the scheming type of villain who plots everything out in advance is always interesting, because you just know that SOME part of his plan (which, of course, has been spelled out for the reader in great detail) is going to go wrong - the question is, what? Also, I like his costume - there aren't that many characters who can make a capelet work for them, but he pulls off the look pretty well.
One thing that kinda bugged me about this, though - why did they bother with that bit about the book full of crime strategies? It's somewhat pointless - it never affects the plot. I mean, it confirms his status as a schemer, but doesn't do much more than that - why didn't they just stick with him being a villain who likes using cliches?

Why do you think people like BW and Animated Megatron the best?

So the Power RIng is the most powerful thing in the universe, but can be easily hijack by a earth man?
