Jings! Crivens! and Help ma bob! It's Oor Wullie!
It occurs to me that over the past few years I've posted from American comics, French bande dessinée, Japanese manga and an English comic, but I've never actually posted a Scottish comic... As a proud Scot myself, this needs to be rectified!
But what to showcase? What epitomises a Scottish cartoon strip? Well, luckily a random visit to the clearance section of a local bookshop provided what I needed, a collection "Oor Wullie" strips.

The Death of Doug Ramsey
Greetings True Believers! I saw several New X-Men posts and it got me thinking about the original crew of muties, The New Mutants. Aside from a few holes, I own pretty much all of the original 100 issue run of NM. To this day it's one of my favorite comic series. Serious, funny, heart-breaking, great characters. In an era where the phrase "Protecting a world that fears and hates them." really meant something. New Mutants was Buffy before Buffy. Outcasts, nerds, jocks, pagans, farmboys, casanovas, mean teachers, evil adults, the agonies of growing up. All while being mutants who occasionally have to save the world and live up to the mantles of those who came before them.
This post is from the TPB, Fall of the Mutants. An X-Crossover (Back when crossovers were still a new/clever idea.) It concerns the death of one of the New Mutants. A boy named Doug Ramsey. His code name was Cypher and his power was Omnilingualism, meaning he could translate any language spoken, written or on a computer. Weird huh? His death was controversial. He was apparently one of those character you either loved or hated. (He's also one of the few MU characters that has never returned from the dead. So his death still has some impact.)

Doug Ramsey and Betsy Braddock: So Wrong yet So Right.
Greetings True Believers! In my last Doug Ramsey post I showed you his tragic end. In this post, let's visit one of his greatest triumphs. When he met, saved and perhaps won the heart of Betsy Braddock a.k.a Psylocke. Some backstory is required. At one point Betsy assumed the mantle of Captain Britain and was blinded by Slaymaster (One of her brother's old foes) She's blind but uses her telepathy to get around. In prologue (set a year in the past) she's hitting the slopes in Switzerland when she's kidnapped by Mojo and Spiral.....Enjoy!

Why Doug Ramsey Was Awesome Pt 2
Since proteus_lives is planning to post NM Annual #2 as part of his Cypher posts before too long, I'd better pre-emptively post NM Annual #1, because of it's particular relevance to Doug! :)
When last we left Doug Ramsey, he'd just been woken up in the middle of the night by Cannonball flying in through his bedroom window to be told that he was a mutant, and taken to the X-Mansion to help the New Mutants establish meaningful dialogue with a disoriented and dangerous Warlock, which he did, which is impressive.

I always wanted to see my dame in lights...
Sooooooooo since we had two wonderful weeks of Bat/Cat, I was thinking of dedicating some posts this week to the most dysfunctional couple in DC. Love them, hate them, they definitely constitute a fabulous part of the DC world.

Osamu Tezuka's "MW"
From 1976, here's MW, one of Osamu Tezuka's most adult works. Yuki and Garai were the only survivors of a poison gas leak (codenamed "MW") that annihilated an island's population. The two escaped before all evidence was obliterated in a government cover-up. Fifteen years pass, but Yuki and Garai are still bound by fate. Yuki is now a charming psychopath who preys on women and children and then uses his Kabuki-honed skills to impersonate his victims, and Garai is a tortured Catholic priest who is Yuki's confessor and lover.
19 scans from a 600-page book. These are scanned from Vertical Inc.'s translation, which is flipped and reads left-to-right. NSFW.
