Destroyer
"Destroyer" was a 4 issue mini series published by Marvel back in 1991. The only reason I picked them up is because they sported awesome Walt Simonson covers. Thank God I picked the second issue up; I would've missed the comic page that has it all! Written by Will Murray, penciled by Dan Lawlis and inked by Fred Fredericks, this one scene has everything a comic page should: alcoholism, racism, and decapitation...

...in that order. )

The Origins of the Mighty Mutanimals!
Someone requested this after I posted the TMNT Adventures Hitler-punch scans. Over the course of the first 20 issues, the Turtles met a number of characters who eventually formed their own team (and short-lived spinoff book), the Mighty Mutanimals. As requested, here are their respective origin stories.

21 pages from 5 separate issues under the cut. )

Donald Needs Context
Context? Very needed. )

Anyway, the real point of my post is to ask for help. I have a VERY HUGE post that I was going to put up, but the sheer amount of images would make the people reading the feed over at Livejournal... well... yell at me. Does anyone remember how to get the feed to cut the posts properly? Sorry. :p

When Wondy was Awesome Interlude--The Hiketeia

Basically the Hiketeia is a modern Greek tragedy with Diana as the youthful hero, Bats as the vengeful king, and a new character named Danielle as the one damned by fate. If that intrigues then...

Cuanta Vida, or a Spy's life in the battlefield
It's not often that I find a comic that is so interesting that I can't wait for a new installment to come out. And then I found Kytri's Cuanta Vida.

For those of you who don't play video games, here's the setting in a nutshell: The series is based on Team Fortress 2, a very popular online multiplayer game. The story is, two rival companies called Reliable Excavation Demolition (RED) and Builders League United Inc. (BLU) are engaged in a war with each other. They both want to destroy the other and take over the assets and governments they control. The game has nine playable character classes, all with their own special features, bonuses, and disadvantages.

But the real question is, are they really that different?

Due to the way the comic is arranged and narrated, it is very difficult for me to cut up the pages and such, so please bear with me. There's LOTS of pictures behind the cut, dialup users beware. (Thanks to bluefall for teaching me how to make the LJ feed cut the post right!)

If you'd like to read more, the comic's homepage is located here. There's no real update schedule, but it updates at least once a week.

Bonus links: Kytri's website, Skyscraper Soup.com, her DeviantArt page, and the Cuanta Vida Livejournal RSS feed. Subscribe to it! There's only two of us on the feed and we're lonely! :p

Super Steph Series pt 11- "From now on, you can call me Robin."
So we enter the era of Robin!Steph! I have mixed feelings about this era. Steph was Robin because she was going to die. Therefore, she was set up to fail. And die. The story of her Robinness was ridiculously contrived and OOC because Willingham can't write any DC characters worth a damn, IMO. BUT, it was also fun. Steph as Robin was good fit, we got a good Detective Comics and "Batgirl and Robin" story out of it.

Then she died. And didn't get a memorial. And the fans protested. And we got her back.

If Stephanie hadn't become Robin, fans wouldn't have noticed how stupid and misogynist and cheapdrama!!!111 her death was, and how badly she was treated as much. And we probably wouldn't have gotten her back as soon as we did. And a lot of fans discovered her because of her becoming Robin, and her death, including me.

So all in all, I'm glad Steph was Robin. Let's look over the six stories where she got to be wonderfully Robin-y, shall we?

Transient Son by Shimura Takako
I started reading this on a whim and it turned out to be the best darn thing I've read for months, maybe even years.
Transient Son (Houro Musuko)(or Wandering Son) by Japanese cartoonist Shimura Takako is the story about Shuichi Nitori, a gradeschool boy coming to terms with transexuality, gender identity and puberty.

No fetishization, no gimmickry. Just...

A whole lot of heartwrenching. )

Fuan no Tane: When creepy eyeballs ATTACK!
Admittedly the title there is a little bit misleading. Not all of the eyeballs beneath the cut actually "attack," though some of them do. I suppose you could say that this particular post is dedicated to creepy-eyed creatures that actually do things besides stare at you creepily... but that doesn't exactly have the same ring, now does it?

Also, as a completely non-eye-related bonus: the story of the Ear-Slashing Monk!

When fanservice is essential to the plot who you gonna call? ADAM HUGHES!
I originally planned on posting this as a quick scan of Triplicate Girl's swimsuit, as I love the notion of a costume that splits into three different outfits to match the personalities. However when I dug the issue out, I realised that this was a golden opportunity to showcase how to best utilise your artist... You get Adam Hughes on art, then give him a story where the entire cast of sculpted young Adonises and curvaceous Aphrodites ARE IN SWIMSUITS... and it's not gratuitous, it's a PLOT POINT!

Genius!

Everything You Know Is Wrong!
I intended to post this awhile ago, in support of someone's post on the one-shot What If The Scarlet Witch Didn't Act Alone? But I actually hate scanning. It's involved and timeconsuming and doing it well requires minute adjustments, also. I'm lazy.

Anyway, this is from the one-shot Avengers: Finale.

Insert your favorite "hung like a horse" pun here--

So, with the amount of Silver Age comics I recently snagged, I'm going to try and post a new bit of crack everyday.

Today's Silver Age crack-of-the-day is the romance between SuperGirl and... and... Super-Horse???

Woooooooo!
I have decided that we are all going to read some GunnerKrigg Court now. Because Gunnerkrigg Court is very, very, very, very, very, very good.

Gunnerkrigg Court is the story of what seems to be a mysterious science fiction school in the middle of a fantasy wood, and of a young lady named Antimony Carver who goes there. Antimony is awesome, and if it were not for the fact that she is younger than me, I would want to be her when I grow up. I have chosen this portion as being both non-spoilery and a good example of Annie being awesome: Chapter Four, Not Very Scary.
