Uncanny X-Men #508 (Spoilers)
CBR has a preview up of Uncanny X-Men #508. I'm only going to post the last page, because it's not exactly what we've been expecting.

And let's just ignore the art. We know: "LAAAAAAAAAND!"

So we begin with a page where Maddy and her "Sisterhood" go and recruit Lady Mastermind in a graveyard.

Cut to Domino in the streets of Tokyo. She's doing a favor for Wolverine and is going to a graveyard that Wolverine keeps in Tokyo. This graveyard has memorials for all his fallen comrades, and a few are actually buried there.

One coffin get's the attention of the Sisterhood. Domino distracts them a bit with a quick fight but they make off with a coffin and...

Could this mean we get British Betsy back?!

That's pretty tolerable, by Land's standards; he seems to at least have gotten a consistent referene for Domino.

Nevertheless, someone will be called upon to actually emote at some point, and then things'll get bad.

It's depressing after Dodson to have to go back to this (though the writing is still much-improved since the first arc).

The Psylocke mess, with all the retcons, the bad writing and the multiple body-switch silliness is one of those things you should just leave alone and never talk about again. There's just no way Fraction can make this into a story without opening that huge can of worms again.

Kwannon was left in Brit Betsy's body right? Which had been made to look quasi-Asian by Spiral...

That's what I got from going to Wiki. Never thought that whole mess was so complicated until I looked it up.

IIRC, no. Kwannon looked Caucasian as she was in Betsy's original body, whilst Betsy was in Kwannon's, with a lot of meshed memories between them. It was originally believed Spiral had reworked Betsy's body to be Oriental, but the Kwannon introduction retconned that rather messily.

This should help explain it (although it is still very confusing).

Honestly, the story could have been very simple: Betsy passes through the Siege Perilous, her mind is in tact but her body is useless. Kwannon falls of a cliff, her mind is brain-dead but her body is in tact. They meet telepathically and agree to switch. Betsy's mind is in Kwannon's active body, Kwannon's brain dead mind is in Betsy's paralyzed body. Eventually, Kwannon-in-Betsy wakes up and forgets the ordeal.

Sort of like what happened in Ultimate X-men (when it was good). And that seems to be what they were going for, with Nyoirin's false journals) but then... nothing was ever that simple back then.

It could have been a rather straight-forward story, but it's not, and the retcons make details in the various stories not mesh, like Wolvie recognizing Betsy-in-Kwannon's-body from her face, or the various journals.

Which is why I feel the whole mess should just be paved over and forgotten, or at least only referred to in a simplified manner.

Thanks to whoever fixed my tags.

The Greg Land one seems kind of mean, though...

Nothing is too mean for Greg Land.

Is this Domino or is this Chianna from Farscape?

In the previous preview pages, Martinique is totally Kate Beckinsale.

I don't think that's likely; Asian Psylocke has become the iconic version of the character.

I thought she was British and of Asian descent?

Oh, no, certainly not. By birth, Psylocke was a white woman with blonde hair (often dyed purple) (her brother is Captain Britain); then she got transferred/transformed into an Asian ninja by Spiral as part of a devious plot.

I disagree completely about Psylocke though...As an asian ninja, she comes off as a hooker version of Elektra. As the Brit, what she actually says and does seems more important.

And in her original body she also seems more badass when she can stand her own in a fight against say Sabretooth. If she's a frickin ninja who would be suprised? Not because she's asian (even tho asian=martial arts is a common stereotype), but because she is a ninja in Kwannons body.

then she got transferred/transformed into an Asian ninja because Jim Lee decided he wanted to draw a hawt ninja chick instead.

Fixed that for you.

I swear, I thought it was the Mandarin that had her bodyswitched. It's been too long. Synapses switching connections.

I sure as hell would love to see Copycat again though. I'm sadly, however, probably the only person who remembers who she even was. :(
