Bullseye "rescues" a woman.
Greetings True Believers! I picked up the first issue of the Dark Reign mini "Hawkeye." We know of course that Hawkeye is really the psycho-killer Bullsye. In this ish the Dark Avengers are fighting a guy in a rogue Hulkbuster suit of armor. Bullseye kills the pilot but the armor falls on a bus and kills 36 people. Bullseye's reaction is "Oops." Osborn rakes him over the coals and Bullseye runs into a kidnapping in progress....

Ouch. The issue ends with Bullseye carving his emblem into the victims foreheads but uh-oh! A news copter filmed the whole incident!

Hmm, who'd have thought that a sociopath would so casually murder people? Poor Norman, he couldn't have seen this coming.

I thought the point of centering a story around an villain or anti-hero was that they have at least some redeeming quality so, you know, the reader actually cares about what happens to them.

In comics? Ha. No, no. It's all about perverse body counts.

Not necessarily; this is the other school, where you watch them run amok and try to get away with it.

I can't see that as a sustainable story.

Though I guess that is why this is a mini series and Dark Reign will only last until some summer event.

You knows what I'd like to see this summer? No event. ;_;

Thiiiiis. A break from the "EPIC" would be nice.

In fact one might say that a break from EPIC would be EPIC. But then one might be beaten for making a bad joke. Which I would never do.

What a shocking turn of events!

I'm really hoping that this all ends with Clint going back to the purple.

No, he's best staying Ronin now. Bullseye's going to crap all over his old name and make it something Clint won't want back.

Kind funny that not that long ago Marvel Editorial had someone edit out a knife through the chest. But here's 4 solid pages of not... graphic, but definitely shocking death.

I think Bullseye say the Dark Knight movie and got inspired.

"Wanna see a magic trick?"

I think you'll need to shrink down the image above the cut, it's way over the requested size.

(Reply to this) (Thread)

Fixed it.

I've been wanting that for years now. But honestly, I'd settle for him becoming a quadraplegic and STAYING that way, knowing that he's going to be helpless and pathetic for the rest of his life...

Enh. If he wasn't on a team, he'd be fine.

Now, Norman Osborn is one who should go back in the coffin. He's been done and done.

o_O

. . . hopefully you meant the part where bullseye killed the kidnappers/rapists and not the part where he killed the innocent woman

the first part was slightly, emphasis on slightly, amusing in a dark and twisted way
but if you found the second part amusing . . . hm . . . well that's not too good . . .

I was echoing the comment, in that the sheer speed at which something which may not be a good idea and in fact was a pretty horrible idea becomes horrible in point zero seconds.

Of course not! Besides, your instincts were right. I was highly dismissive of the innocents' plight, though I blame the evil history of the Marvel civilian for that.

This actually made me wince.

You know, there's a problem with really scary villains and ongoing comics. This is the same kind of problem we keep getting with the Joker over in the DCU. You have some villains that you want to portray as particularily vile or "cool" and you do that by continously upping the body count, of making them kill more and more people in creative ways. The other way is to wash out their distasteful side and make them more of anti-heroes, like Venom in the 90's, or Lobo, but that's not in vogue anymore.

But, due to the nature of DC and Marvel, these characters will -never- be brought to justice, because if nothing else they will be brought back out of nostalgia, or even due to trademarking.

And in the end you can never stop thinking "wow, why hasn't the Punisher or someone else killed this guy/girl by now?". At least the original Bullseye arc by Miller had him in a full-body cast at the end of the story, and Miller didn't use him again.
